Help Me Help Others

For as long as I can remember, I have dreamt of going on a mission trip abroad to help people who are in need. I finally have the opportunity and the ability to take the time off work to go!

I researched several organizations who can help me and decided to choose International Volunteer HQ. I have chosen to go to Nairobi, Kenya during the first week of March 2020. I will be assisting with childcare.

The description of my assignment from the website is: "Childcare centers in Nairobi can host between 15-100 children at any one time, making them unpredictable and busy places. As a result, there is a high demand for volunteers who love children and have the energy to keep up with the number of children in these centers. The children love interacting with volunteers and will be sure to keep you on your feet!

Childcare volunteers in Nairobi can expect to help out with the day-to-day operations in a range of pre-schools, baby daycare centers and kindergartens. Each center caters to children of differing ages, however, you will typically work with children between the ages of 1 and 6 years old. You are often required to teach basic English and math, and you can expect to assist with the general running of the center and daily chores such as cooking, cleaning, helping with farm work, caring for children and babies and assisting with meal times."

The cost of the trip will come to approximately $1,000 which includes the round trip flights, payment to my support family for my food and lodging, and travel back and forth from my accommodation to the childcare center. The money I am able to raise will go directly toward the cost of the trip. I will use any additional funds that are left to purchase school supplies for the center.
