Before It All Began

She is an extraordinary and a strong-spirited woman with a loving family. She's also a type of mother that's willing to trade anything for her family, especially her kids. In addition, she's also a selfless sibling because she is always there to extend a helping hand to them unconditionally.

Her Life's Journey

Mama took a sacrifice and faced several challenges of being away from her loved ones. She moved in Hong Kong for almost five years to provide the means for her family, especially for her two growing sons. Mama did a great job in making sure that all the needs were met, even if sometimes it will leave her nothing.

Start of Her Battle

After tirelessly working abroad for several years, she was first diagnosed in 2006 with Acromegaly with a benign tumor on her pituitary gland. This is a type of hormonal condition wherein a pituitary gland produces too much growth hormone during adulthood. When this happens, your bones increase in size, including those of your hands, feet and face (as you can see on the picture/video). Since acromegaly is uncommon and physical changes occur gradually, the condition sometimes takes a long time to recognise. If it's not treated promptly, acromegaly can lead to serious illness and may even become life-threatening. However, she started to experience stomach ache and cramps in 2007 for several weeks. In our surprise, the Physician diagnosed complications from her ectopic pregnancy after carrying her 3rd child. In result, she had to undergo Total Abdominal Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy. A year after, she has undergone transsphenoidal pituitary surgery for her tumour, which we were very lucky and blessed to be part of a charity, as they covered the entire expense of the procedure. The surgery went successfully and she started to live normally. However, after doing several follow-up check ups with her Physician, they've noticed that a mass is starting to grow on the same spot where she had the surgery. The Physician ruled out that indeed the tumour reoccured on her pituitary gland. But this time she cannot be cleared for another major procedure as she had developed a posterior mitral valve prolapse with severe mitral regurgitation with a history of congestive heart failure. As of writing, she's undergoing medical treatment for the said conditions and we are happy that she is still striving. Fast forward to 2020 of February, she's been in an out of the hospital due to severe head ache and shortness of breathing. February 15, 2020 at exactly 9:05AM, she left us to join the Creator and the cause of death was Brainstem Failure.

What We Need Help With

We were discharged from the hospital after 12 days of being confined. Our hospital bill has not been settled yet since we are in need of funds as this is very unexpected event. I, as a sole income-earner and the eldest son, I had to leave my job to take care of her in the meantime. Which in result of us being left empty-handed. However, we made sure that her PhilHealth (Government Insurance) is updated, but we've utilized and exhausted this ever since. We are currently looking for an additional funds in arranging for her proper funeral and to let her rest in peace completely.

We would like to know on your kind hearts to please help us in raising funds for my mother's funeral. She had lived and survived all of life's adversities and we want to do anything to make her rest more peacefully.

You may send me a message if you would like updates of Mama's wake or for pictures of what is happening. But rest assured that we will be more than happy to share with you guys our daily progress.

Please help us to spread the word by sharing this post so that it can reach those Angels who are capable of helping. Likewise, any of your prayers will also be appreciated.

For those who wish to say goodbye to Mama Sonia personally, you can visit her at:
