Saving incredible Ryan

My brother-in-law Ryan lives in Amsterdam with my sister Marshi and their two kids, Sam, aged 9, and Shaun, aged 2. While visiting family in Manila for the first time since they moved to Amsterdam 1.5 yrs ago, and with no symptoms, he suddenly became ill with severe pneumonia. The pneumonia progressed aggressively despite medication and by the end of a week, Ryan's lungs were failing. He is now known to have SARI (severe adenovirus respiratory infection). Because of Ryan's life-threatening lung failure, the family agreed to use life support in the form of ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) despite the cost. The machine allows his body to rest and recover while it does the work of his lungs. The family usually get travel insurance but because Manila felt like home and not "overseas," they forgot to in the excitement. Unfortunately, their private insurance in the Netherlands will only cover 3% of the projected treatment expenses.

We ask for your help in saving Ryan. "Incredible" is a play on words because despite his vital signs saying he was dying upon transfer to the hospital that offers ECMO, with the strength of "The Incredible Hulk" he was still able to extubate himself. Every day he is alive is a miracle and we live by faith one day at a time.
