Campaign Story
I am Glenn Adrian Cruz, 32 years of age. I am currently suffering from Crohn’s disease, and I am in need of your help.
What is Crohn’s disease? It is a disease that causes inflammation in parts of your digestive system. Crohn's can affect any part of it, but most often it affects your small intestine and colon.
(A more detailed information about the disease can be found here: What is Crohn's Disease?)
I have been diagnosed with it in March of 2017 and had to undergo a major surgery (right hemicolectomy) the following month (April 2017). By God's grace, the surgery proved to be successful and seemingly allowed me to make a recovery in 2018.
(A more detailed version of our experience can be found in my wife's blog here: Ponderous Pondering)
However, Crohn’s disease (being an auto-immune disorder) comes and goes in what doctors call “flare ups”. During a flare up, inflammation affects your small intestine, the part of your body that absorbs nutrients from food. After you’ve had it for a long time, your body may no longer be able make the most of what you eat. Absorption of food and other orally taken medicine are at a minimum, causing weight loss, abdominal pain, and loose bowel movement to name a few symptoms.
I am currently undergoing another flare up, and my maintenance medicines are no longer as effective as they were before. According to my doctor, my condition is now within the “moderate to severe” category. With this, my doctor suggested a new treatment called “biologics”. With the help of this new treatment, the doctor says most if not all of the symptoms will be under control - something I have longed for ever since my diagnosis.
However, since Crohn’s disease is very rare in my country, the medicine and treatments are all on the rather expensive scale. With the family having gone through other health issues (my father’s diagnosis of lung cancer, surgery, and chemotherapy) we are now under heavy financial strain.
And so I ask for your help. The medicine alone costs roughly just below $1000 (Php50,000 at the very least) for a month’s dose of the medicine, and that still does not cover other hospital procedures and laboratory tests. The medicine needs to be administered twice in a month for at least one year, depending on how my body responds to the medicine as advised by the doctor.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read. If God has moved you to donate, it would be greatly appreciated. Please also keep me in your prayers. Thank you, and God bless.

So it begins...
Update posted by Glenn Adrian Cruz at 03:39 amI would like to thank each and everyone of you for the support that you have extended to me and my family. Between this page and help from other parties, I am now able to continue with the biologics treatment. At the moment, it is still coupled with steroids (taken. . . . .
