This go get funding account is for, Danilo Masanque, 65 years old & currently residing in Imus City, Cavite.

1st Hospital Admission:

On 10th of January 2019, he was rushed to the emergency section of the Medical Center of Imus (MCI) due to left-sided body weakness, slurred speech and poor gag reflex. Urgent CTSCAN was done and result showed cerebro vascular accident (CVA) or stroke on the right middle cerebral artery. Doctors advised that he would need to be put on the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further evaluation, management and treatment. Due to the unavailability of ICU in MCI, he was then transferred to another hospital, Binakayan Hospital and Medical Center in Kawit, Cavite. Upon reaching the ER of the hospital, he was immediately attended and they have inserted IV line for medication access and the nasogastric tube (NGT) was inserted, and my father was put on “nothing per orem” order (no oral intake). Also, foley catheter was inserted to monitor urine output. They have also done series of blood tests where the result showed that glucose in the blood is above normal range. An x-ray was done as well, and they have found out enlargement of the heart. Repeat CTSCAN was done, showed the same result as the previous one. Appropriate management and treatment was given to my father & later was transferred to the regular after 5 days for continuous monitoring. He was referred to the physio therapy due to left-sided paralysis of the body. After few days, his condition did not get worse and his blood pressure became stable, hence the doctor ordered to remove his IV fluid, followed by NGT. Doctor advised that he can be discharged later on. We were not able to take him out of the hospital immediately, but were able to seek some financial assistance from my company, availed a small amount of loan from the bank and putting all together the help of family relatives, colleagues at work + whatever savings/income we have. Finally, he was discharged on 19th January 2019, with the total bill of PHP 132,903.23.

2nd Hospital Admission:

On March 16, 2019, after his cardio follow up check, while waiting for their transportation, my Mom observed that he looks drowsy & sweating. So since they are already in the hospital, they went to the ER where they checked his blood pressure, it was 70/40. They inserted IV line for hydration and medication to increase blood pressure. On the 2nd day of admission his BP stabilizes and then was discharged on 18th March 2019, with total bill of PHP15, 213.60

3rd Hospital Admission:

On April 1, 2019, he was again rushed to MCI with complaint of black stool & pulse rate were high (approx.120+). Doctor ordered for blood test, result showed that his hemoglobin is only 45 (normal should be above 100). He was advised to be admitted in the ICU for close monitoring. He was referred to gastroenterologist by his neurologist. Upon assessment, doctor ordered total parenteral nutrition via IV line since he is not allowed to have any oral intake. He had 5 bags of blood transfusion & medication was given to stop the upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Then after few days, he was transferred to the medical room, continuous medication was given. Later, stool color observed to be normal so discharge order was provided. Home medication and follow up appointments were advised. He was discharged on 16th April 2019, with total bill of PHP214, 967.80; we were able again to seek financial help from the family relatives and thru the generosity of some of our friends & colleagues, plus a small amount which we have taken as loan from the bank.

4th Hospital Admission:

On May 24, 2019, he was rushed again for the 4th time to the ER of MCI, however his neurologist referred him to DeLasalle Hospital & Medical Center since his gastro doctor was out of the country at that time. Immediately, he was transferred to DeLasalle , blood test, X-ray and ECG was ordered by the ER doctor. Result showed that his hemoglobin level was 75, ordered 3 bags of blood for transfusion. The following day endoscopy was done, result showed gastric ulcer on the stomach with edematous edge. Multiple biopsy was taken for histopathology. After few days, histopath result showed poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma (gastric cancer). CT-scan was also ordered by doctor to check if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. CT-scan result showed cardiomegaly (enlargement of the heart), prostate enlargement, gallbladder stone, minimal fluid accumulation in the lungs and small umbilical hernia. Doctor recommended to do gastric surgery to remove the tumor so she referred my father to a surgeon. Surgeon advised us to do surgery. If we will agree for the surgery, he should be referred to a nutritionist first to be nutrionally stable prior to surgery. When we asked about the percentage risk, they cannot assure us of anything. Since we are undecided to do the surgery, the doctor suggested to discharge the patient once the internal bleeding stop, so that hospital bills will not accumulate further. Advised to continue with all his medications and do his regular checkups for continuous monitoring of his health condition. He was discharged on 11th June 2019 with total bill of PHP175,419.22 – which has been paid through the help of family relatives and generosity of friends & colleagues, plus whatever salary & remaining savings we have.

5th Hospital Admission:

Recently, on 6th August 2019, he was admitted to the DeLasalle Hospital with complain of abdominal pain. He vomited twice and stool color was noticed to be very dark. They had done blood tests and 2 bags of blood for transfusion. Doctor had ordered an emergency endoscopy, result showed that the tumor has grown in size, blocking the food passage through the stomach, which later on may also totally block the airway. Doctor has given us two options:

1-Surgery – If we choose operation for my father, doctors reiterated the possible risks during and after surgery. And even after ops, his quality of life will no longer improve since he has other health issues.

2-Jejunostomy – a soft plastic tube placed through the skin of the abdomen to be able to deliver food and medicine. He will be given palliative care only for nutrition and pain management.
