UMTAPO is a social justice NPO engaged in reviving Ubuntu and building ethical leadership through the promotion of anti-corruption, anti-racism and anti-sexism.

Youth and women form the backbone of UMTAPO’s work. This particular campaign aims to strengthen youth leadership for ethical governance, targeting mainly students from all major universities in the country.

One of the most exciting results thus far has been the formation of the UMTAPO Student Movement (USM) by those who had previously undergone a unique training course on Democracy, Human Rights, and Anti-Corruption. The USM is a student body that has a vision and ethical standards that guide it and it is no wonder that students belonging to different political and social formations at universities have embraced it – many are now holding dual membership. Indeed, a unique and major accomplishment.

An extension of the campaign is the inclusion of debates and workshops on Patriarchy and Violence against Women. The funds being raised will be used for 2-3 day train-the-trainer workshops in five provinces for student representatives from all major universities in the country. The participants of these workshops will, in turn, transfer the campaign to their respective universities.

  • Working with Umtapo is an inspirational and joyful experience for me. As one of the patrons of Umtapo I have followed all their activities till this day. In all their activities Umtapo has demonstrated to be honest, dependable, and incredibly hard-working. Beyond that, they are able to address complex issues with strategy and confidence. Challenges never intimidated them, as they have proven time and again during their existence since 1986. At all times they demonstrate a deep commitment to serving and making sacrifices for social justice with special attention to the specific disadvantaged communities in their country. They bring out the best in people.
