Hello Lovely People,

Everyone in this world, including you, always aim to achieve a better future. It could be in anything such as in study, job, economy, or the main one, in your own self-development. Better improvement in anything requires a process that is not always instant. After meeting various people who have reached that “better version”, we conclude that there are at least two things they have in common: BIG WHY AND WIDE NETWORK.

I am here today because I have been selected among 100,000s applicants to be a delegate for Ghana at the upcoming AWMUN 2019 in Bali, Indonesia on November 13th -16th, 2019. An event where young leaders from different places around the globe are provided a platform to share their perspectives, through Debates, Idea Explorations, etc, particularly on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that will help changes the world.

I am raising this fund to seek support to help me travel to Bali and be a part of the #AWMUN19,

My name is Charles Afrim Gyebi Parker, a 21-year-old young high school graduate from Ghana, in Africa.

ABOUT MODEL UNITED NATIONS

Model United Nations is a simulation of a United Nations Conference attended by young leaders, referred to as Delegates, who are assigned a country in one of the United Nations (UN)s’ numerous committees with pre-set topics to debate. It is also a platform where young leaders from all over the gather in one place with similar aim, that is to improve their skills in leadership, negotiation, and diplomacy. All those skills can be obtained by joining and participating in the Asia World Model United Nations (AWMUN) III.

ABOUT ASIA WORLD MODEL UNITED NATIONS (AWMUN) III

Asia World Model United Nation (AWMUN) III is a Model United Nations carrying the theme of The Implementation of World’s Agenda 2030. This conference aims to facilitate young leaders from different backgrounds to broaden their network and to provide a platform to share their perspectives, particularly on Sustainable Development Goals that will be discussed in each council. The delegates will have a discussion on the mentioned issue for each goal and will be guided by the chair and co-chair.

WHY AM I SO PASSIONATE ABOUT AWMUN III?

Been selected among more than 10,000s applicants to be a delegate of the upcoming AWMUN 2019 in Bali, Indonesia on November 13th -16th, 2019. An event where ASIA WORLD MODEL UNITED NATIONS III aims to facilitate young leaders from different places to broaden their networks and to provide a platform to share their perspectives, particularly on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which will be discussed in each council that will help change the world. Therefore, I am so passionate to be a part of this conference because it will benefit me by:

 MAKING AN IMPACT IN MY CAREER AND EDUCATION?

To begin with, it has been a dream come true since a kid to stand up one day and put a smile on the face of Africa through education. Also, support the less privilege communities and make the world a better place for generations to come. Growing up in a community where I see people struggle to live a normal life like an average human being should enjoy life, due to the result of poverty and diseases every day. Again, due to lack of proper education and unemployment rises, therefore living a good live becomes so challenging for both men and women (including children). Young adults then drop out schools and end up involving in unprofessional illegal activities to earn an income in other to support their families or education which may include:

Illegal Mining (Galamsey)

Internet Fraud (Cafe boys & girls)

Illegal Drug Businesses

Prostitution

Armed robbery

Etc.

This all because, it was believed that, at the end of the day, Education becomes meaningless, because one will finish school and becomes jobless ending them up in the streets, where they practice a lot of illegal activities putting them behind bars (Prison). In this nation, adolescents represent 22.4% of the total population. The rates of teenage pregnancies are high. Thirty percent (30%) of all births registered in 2014, were by adolescents, and 14% of adolescents aged between 15 and 19 years had begun childbearing. Pregnancies and deliveries of adolescents are accompanied by more risks such early death as compared to older women. This is all as a result of lack of proper education, unemployment and lack of other Infrastructures.

Don't think there aren’t leaders from where I come from. Ghana, formerly known as the Gold Coast is my motherland. Ghana gained independence from Britain in 1957. Ghana is considered one of the most stable countries in West Africa since it's transition to multi-party democracy in 1992, becoming the first sub-Saharan nation to break free from colonial rule. Gold, Cocoa and Bauxite, Manganese, Timber, Good soil and more, recently oil form the cornerstone of Ghana's economy. The country is named after the great medieval trading empire that was located northwest of the modern-day state until its demise in the 13th century. Republic of Ghana it’s Capital: Accra, on a Population of 25.5 million, an Area of 238,533 sq. km (92,098 sq. miles). Major languages spoken are English, African languages including Akan, Ewe, Ga with Major religions Christianity, indigenous beliefs, Islam Life expectancy 64 years (men), 66 years (women) and current currency Cedi UN, World Bank. The President of the Nation Nana Akufo-Addo, Nana Akufo-Addo won the presidential election in December 2016, tapping into an electorate fed up with a sputtering economy and ready for change. Causes of poverty is changing trends in a country’s economy. Associated with the lack of proper education, high divorce rate, a culture of poverty, one cause is also illiteracy overpopulation, epidemic diseases such as AIDS and malaria and environmental problems such as flooding, Teenage parenting is a bonus and not to talk of school dropouts.

Extreme weather may be a cause of poverty in many countries. Drought, rainfall and flooding are some of the biggest causes of poverty by weather. When natural disasters do not gain media attention raising money becomes more difficult. This is made worse when governments spend money in the capitals instead of the poorest areas which need it most. Almost 50 percent of people in the world today live on less than $2.50 per day.

Why is a nation with so many resources still suffering from poverty, diseases, unemployment, lack of education, and so on?

Upon all the natural rich resources most African Countries has, there is still rise of poverty and hunger everywhere. Africa over the years has suffered heavy criticism from other parts of the world and even within Africa itself. Most of this criticism is as a result of the low level of development of the continent.

The primary causes of poverty in the Republic is Ghana is due to Unemployment, Inflation, Poor management of resources, Poor Government, Under-Education, Debt, Corruption, Extreme weather, Lack of control in local food, lack of access to education, Mental illness - lack of proper psychiatric care, World hunger, Epidemic diseases, Automation – Technological Unemployment, Overpopulation. And this not only about Ghana but most African Countries as a WHOLE. Within the continent itself, the masses attribute the cause of this low level of development to our leaders while the leaders feel that the citizens are not putting in their best for their respective nations and the continent at large. But who is really supposed to be blamed for this Africa’s misfortune?

Citizens of a nation gives office to leaders by voting for them and what does the government bodies do to resolve the problems and issues of the nation? When an African leader becomes to power, his bank accounts are in Switzerland. He travels to France for Medical treatment. He invests in Germany. He buys from Dubai. He consumes Chinese. He prays in Rome or Mecca. His children study in Europe. He travels to Canada, the USA, Europe for tourism. Yet still the poor citizens are paying taxes from their hardwork under this hot scorching weather and if these leaders die, they will be buried in their native country of Africa. Africa is just a “cemetery” for Africans. “How could a cemetery be developed?”

We are their own enemies. We hate each other and this gives the foreigners the opportunities to continue exploring our resources. As far as I know, Africa is more of God’s chosen continent, it’s a blessed continent and it’s time for Africans to Realize the potentials we have. You can’t compare African weather with any other weather across the globe. African soil can feed the whole of world but their problem is just one, “OUR IGNORANCE”.

To end this, if a cemetery could be developed, we need to stand up high and fight for it. As a kid growing up in a such community and experiencing this, I am so motivated me to step up and fight for my people in Ghana, Africa and the World as whole.

 HOW WILL THE COUNTRY BENEFIT FROM THIS?

As a selected delegate to represent Ghana in ASIA WORLD MODEL UNITED NATIONS III (AWMUN) is event which aims to facilitate young leaders from different places across the globe to broaden their networks and to provide a platform to share their perspectives, particularly on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it will benefit me to:

Gain a platform where my voice will be heard across the globe.

Gain the skills to organize programs where various communities will be educated on the importance and purpose of Education.

Get an advantage to establish a network which I can use to support the less privilege communities that need government assistance.

Gain a platform to educate citizens on how to manage the country's resources to reduce financial crisis in the nation and surrounding countries and reduce high rate of unemployment.

Help educate young adults on the effects of drug addiction and teenage pregnancy.

Acknowledge the importance good health and how to maintain a good health habit.

Established a Charity Foundation to support the less privilege communities and children who has dropped out of school due to financial difficulties.

Etc.

CONCLUSION

Therefore, been a delegate of the Republic of Ghana in ASIA WORLD MODEL UNITED NATIONS (AWMUN) III, I believe will be an excellent choice for me as a young leader who aims to enhance and develop his capabilities in communication and diplomacy skills which will not only help bring change to Ghana but to the African continent and the World as a whole.
