Our dear friend and brother, Ariel Cook, who has been a humble and faithful servant to the Poriya Ilit community, was recently diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer. As a community, we are seeking financial support for living and medical expenses related to treatments and restoration of his health. He is a man of great faith and believes that God is taking him on this journey for a result that will glorify His purposes.

Our friend Ariel has a great love for the water and has been a seasoned sea captain for nearly his entire life. He sacrificed his love for the seafaring life to serve and bless the people of Israel. During his time in Israel, he has volunteered thousands of hours of service. He especially has a heart for helping widows and has particularly focused on meeting their needs. Ariel is always so quick to help others no matter what the task, big or small, with no expectation of receiving anything in return. He is a very loving and selfless person, never asking for help for himself. Because he has given so much to so many, we have it on our hearts that now is the time to give back and to give in abundance.

“If someone among you is needy, one of your brothers, in any of your towns in your land which Adonai your God is giving you, you are not to harden your heart or shut your hand from giving to your needy brother. No, you must open your hand to him and lend him enough to meet his need and enable him to obtain what he wants.” (Deuteronomy 15:7-8)

Ariel and his beloved wife Cindy have lived in Israel for the past eight years. During those years they have moved 65+ times, serving many homes, guest houses, ministries, and people. They have never had a place to call their own. We hope to not only contribute to the aid of medical expenses but also to help them to be able to get a home of their own so that they have a quiet, peaceful place during Ariel’s healing process.

Through this journey, we want to walk with Ariel and Cindy and bless them abundantly the way they have blessed so many. Our goal is to raise at least $25,000 for medical and living expenses. He also longs for a trip to the States to see his sons, whom he hasn't seen in four years. If they have blessed you in any way or if you have ever been blessed and want to give back, please rise and stand with us in supporting them.

It's with great sorrow we announce Ariel’s passing on October 15th after a six-month battlewith inoperable cancer. It came as a shock since he had been doing quite well. His condition declined quickly after Yom Kippur. He passed away just a few dayslater during his favorite holiday, Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles),. . . . .

An UPDATE from Ariel

Update posted by Poriya Illit at 12:45 pm

An UPDATE from Ariel: Dear Loved Ones, Your generosity means so much to us! Some fundamental tasks are taking much longer for me (Ariel) than they used to. We are working at relocating and finding our own flat after 68+ moves in and around Poriya Illit. Not having our own. . . . .
