Campaign Story
August of 2016 changed the lives of the Sherman family forever, their Patriarch finally had a diagnosis for his recent health problems. The man who in his mid 50’s still raced around a BMX track with his grandkids, wrestled on the trampoline, and danced with his wife under the stars...was suddenly no longer able to do any of it. This is a fundraiser to pay tribute to Gary Sherman loyal husband, dedicated Father, loving Grandfather and amazing friend.
This Warrior was taken from this life by a vicious neurodegenerative disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or for those with Facebook in 2014, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. What started as a little muscle weakness progressed to paralysis, even ripped away his ability to speak, swallow, and breathe. The days of riding the beautiful bikes he was so proud of and participating in BBQ’s in the backyard were officially over. He couldn’t even roll his eyes and smile for family pictures to make his daughter happy like he used to.
Gary left the this world on Thursday, April 12, 2019 at 4:20pm, 2.5 years after being diagnosed. He passed of respiratory failure caused by the ALS gasping for his last breathe, which was a very traumatizing thing for His wife and son in law to witness.
Pam, Gary’s wonderful wife, has had to quit her job and sell most of her belongings to be by her soul mates side in his time of great need. This strong courageous woman is left with a lot of expenses not to mention gettin back on her feet and in a better mental state after she pays off the debt that was accumulated making sure Gary was as comfortable as possible at all times. To take away a little of the families incredible burden, financially at least, I would humbly like to ask for help from anyone who is willing and able. Please do not put yourself out helping us but we would love as many shares as possible not just for the financial help (although that is the goal of this fundraiser of course) but also to once again bring awareness to this debilitating disease.
Thank you everyone and we will be updating location and date for the celebration of Gary Wayne Sherman's adventurous life.
