₱25,300raised of ₱800,000.00 goal goal
Please help us to raise funds for Aurora Limos Acab's medical support, rehabilitation and full recovery.
Here is our story:
Monday, February 18 2019, around 7:30am my sister Aurora Limos - Acab had a stroke while riding an electric bike for a personal errand. Not having control of the bike she got thrown and hit her head on the sidewalk pavement. Living by herself in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan (a province in the Philippines) her neighbors brought her to the nearest Hospital. Only after when family arrived at 11am, was administered to a CT scan that showed severe traumatic brain injuries (pontine and subdural hemorrhages).
Tuesday, February 19,Aurora was transferred to
Manila Central University Hospital Intensive Care
Unit (ICU)
for medical management where she was diagnosed brain dead and cannot
be operated on.
She was given a mere 10% chance to survive the critical period
of 12-14 days following her brain injuries
. Severe complications were expected,
including hydrocephalus, which did not occur. She, however, remained in a coma,
the state she was on since the day of the unfortunate incident.
Thursday, March 14, Aurora started to open her eyes and blink, but no other encouraging motor movements were observed . The doctors declared this as the start of her vegetative state (absence of the usual mental or physical functions) which they initially said will be the prognosis for her for the rest of her life. With the declaration, the doctors recommended tracheotomy and gastrostomy tube surgical procedures to prepare her for the vegetative life ahead . She successfully underwent both procedures on March 20 and had no complications.
Friday, March 22, two days after the surgical procedures, to the surprise of her medical team and family, she started responding. She started to move her eyes when called by her name, and started to slightly press with left hand on command.
Tuesday, March 26, after a very uncertain five-week stay in the MCU-ICU, Aurora was discharged conscious from the hospital and was transferred to a personal care home for further nursing care and potential rehabilitation.
Aurora is currently on her third week now in a personal home care . Nursing staff reports positive movements mostly on the left side of the body (hand & leg). The right side of her body is badly affected by the brain injuries, but can still improve with the right rehabilitative line up. The attending physician at the home care and the nursing staff highly recommend continued rehabilitative program that will include physical therapy and on-going nutrition and nursing care.
My sister Aurora is a widow, with no health insurance and with no personal financial backing.
Her 4 children (3 young workers, 1 unemployed) exhausted their personal savings and through the assistance of relatives and friends were able to pool the financial resources needed to pay for the initial hospital and medical expense that came up to Php814,000.00 (USD15,654) for the first five weeks of medical treatment.
My sister’s will to survive inspires the family to continue to fight with her. She may be out of danger for the time being, but she still has a very long road ahead of her in terms of further medical and rehabilitative management.
I appeal for your help to raise funds for my sister’s on-going medical and rehabilitative expenses. The monthly nursing and rehabilitation fee is at least Php70,000 (USD1,350). With drained resources, our family alone is not able to sustain this amount long term. We are uncertain as to whether or not Aurora will be able to go back to her normal self and when, but what is certain is that she is demonstrating a very strong will to survive and that her condition may be improved by further medical and rehabilitative management.
Any amount you can spare will be deeply appreciated.
