Campaign Story
The Haven night shelter in Wynberg plays an important part in helping the homeless of this area find peace, diginity
and help them to go forward with their lives, which have led them, sometimes through adictions, such as alchol or drugs,Here they can be helped and given the motivation necessary to live meaningful lives.Sadly, the shelter needs
refurbishmentThere is no proper facitities to store food, which is donated by Woolworths, collected from the local store in Constantia of course it is past its ‘sell-by date’,but is still good enough to cook and serve the residents good food three times a day.A large coldroom with freezer is needed,as is a new cooking range.Basic needs, such as new bed linen, mattresses for the bunk-beds.Men and Women have seperate areas, with washing facilities. The laundry, where they all wash their own clothes is functional.
Any donations of furniture, books etc: would be welcome, but the most inportant think is the kitchen and larder. This is why I’m asking you to please help me to help them.I will find source the necessities, and will keep costs to a minimum, bearing in mind that this appeal is a one-off.
I have been involved with homelessness, and other charities all my adult life in the UK,never in this wonderful country which I now think of as my adopted Home.
