500,000 Rohingya children have fled from violence in Myanmar only to face a whole new crisis in Bangladesh. Monsoon season is here. UNICEF is responding to this spiralling emergency but we must act now to protect refugee children from floods, mudslides and outbreaks of disease. Please help them today.

The Rohingya community are a stateless Muslim minority who have faced discrimination, exclusion and poverty in Myanmar for decades.

Mass killings and sexual violence have sparked a refugee crisis for half a million Rohingya children who have been forced to make the gruelling journey to Bangladesh. They arrived with harrowing stories of burned homes and what few belongings they could carry. They’re sick, hungry and struggling every day in the harsh conditions of a crowded refugee camp.

Now monsoons are bringing new devastation to Rohingya children. Torrential rains have already caused landslides, damaged hundreds of shelters and taken lives.

As wild winds tear through the camps, children are sitting on the roofs of their precarious shelters, desperately trying to stop their tarpaulins from being swept away.

The worst is still to come.

Monsoons threaten to flood low-lying areas of the camps and wash raw sewage into family homes and water supplies. These are nightmare conditions for an outbreak of disease like cholera, which can spread through a crowded community with deadly speed.

Refugee children are facing the double emergency of displacement and natural disaster. We won’t let them face it alone.

Your emergency donation can give Rohingya children:

Safe water, sanitation and hygiene supplies to stop the spread of disease.
Access to emergency health care, medicine and immunisations.
Sachets of therapeutic food - a peanut paste specially formulated with the micronutrients children need to survive malnutrition.

Arefa knows what’s coming - she and her family have endured it once before.

Last year, the mother carried her baby son Anwar as she fled from Myanmar to Bangladesh on foot. The family took shelter next to a river in Cox’s Bazar, hoping they could finally rest and recover.

Then, in the middle of the night, torrential rains flooded the makeshift camp. This incredible mother stood in the rising waters and held her child above her head until morning.

Parents like Arefa are working hard to protect children in impossible conditions. They’re showing astounding strength and determination but the world is letting them down. They need help and they need it now.

You can give children safety, survival and hope.
