“Seeking Financial Assistance for Grace”

Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I never knew how hard life can be until I’ve seen my mother, Grace San Joaquin, suffering from Cerebrovascular Accident or what is also referred to as “stroke”. Generally, CVA is the sudden death of some brain cells due to lack of oxygen when the blood flow to the brain is impaired by blockage or when blood vessel breaks and bleeds into the brain.

In my mom’s case, according to her doctor, she had a stroke-in-evolution due to cardiac embolism. It is a type of stroke where her heart pumps unwanted materials to her brain circulation. My mom has a Chronic Atrial Fibrillation which could be the triggering factor of her stroke. The normal rhythm of her heart becomes irregular, due to disorganized electrical signals. This causes the upper chambers of her heart, called the atria, to beat chaotically. This restricts blood from being efficiently pumped from her heart. When her heart can’t pump out blood effectively, the blood can sometimes pool in her heart and form a blood clot. Based on my mom’s CT scan, the infarct area (dead brain cells) has progressed into the right side of her brain which resulted into paralysis (inability to move parts of the body) and rare effects such as confusion and hallucinations. My mother’s life is at stake and we don’t want to lose her.

It was January 18, 2019, around 4am when my younger sister found my mom, lying in her bed with her left face drooped, her speech was slurred, and can’t move the left side of her body. She voided on her pants as she was currently taking diuretic medication during that time due to edema on her feet. She has been administering medicines for hyperglycemia-high blood glucose (sugar), hyperthyrodism, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and she also has a cardiomegaly (abnormal enlargement of the heart) history. Her current illnesses could cause complications if not closely monitored. She is currently taken cared of in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) at Maria Josefa Private Hospital in Iriga City, Camarines Sur, Bicol Province, Philippines.

A Neurologist, Cardiologist and Endocrinogist have been seeing her since she got admitted to the hospital. And that solely will require us a large fund plus her expensive medications and doctor’s medical / laboratory test orders. Roughly, it would cost us a minimum of $1,300.00 Canadian Dollar or Php50,000 Philippine Peso a day. Our bills are piling up and all my savings has been draining very fast for my mother’s treatment.

Based on her most recent CT Scan, Mom had petechial hemorrhage on the infarct area of her brain due to ruptured small blood vessels that caused her severe headaches. Her attending physician was able to control the bleeding though through medications.

Grace is a typical mom, very simple and jolly and she used to have a positive outlook in life. We only have a small family. I am one of her children who is a full-time mom to my one year old baby. I’ve stopped working full-time two years ago to focus on my son. Now, I’m generating a minimal income not even enough to suffice all our household bills. My aunt and siblings have been extending their love and support to our mother. However, having their own families made it more challenging to cover all the medical expenses of our mom, thus, our resources is continuously depleting. Unfortunately, we cannot sustain the growing hospitalization cost of our mom.

Looking at her now, it is extremely painful, delibitating, and heart-breaking especially for me, being away from her. It is indeed, physically, mentally, emotionally and financially exhausting.

Despite all, we never lose hope because we believed in God’s mercy and grace. In the midst of storm, we are entrusting Mama to the care of our dear Father in Heaven. We know in our hearts that His purpose is perfect and for the good. We believed that Mama will be restored. We Trust in Him. We submit everything to God.

Matthew 19:26 - But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

2 Corinthians 12:9 - And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

John 16:33 - These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Our loving mom is fighting a hard battle, please help her survive in her feeble state. We are humbly seeking God’s interventions through His living instruments, people whom He called to spread good deeds in order to aid my mom’s daily medical treatments. Extending any amount of financial support to our mom will be greatly appreciated. But above all, we are in need of your prayers. We would like to give thanks in advance to all who are kind-hearted and have pure intentions of helping our mother get back in shape and better health condition. May the Lord God reward your good souls in His perfect ways and time.

“Mothers are one of the most significant people in our lives. They carried us in their wombs, raised us, protected us, comforted us and loved us on the way they know. Their arms have been our refuge, source of happiness and peacefulness. Without them, we are not here. Our mothers sacrificed their lives for us.”

Update posted by Mary Ann Santiago at 07:10 pm

The doctors of Grace are looking for about a week or less to still monitor her condition in the hospital. They wanted to monitor her stability and how her body will respond after therapy. Grace just had a 2D echocardiogram. Sadly, they’ve seen that her heart contracts slowly which has. . . . .
