Hi,

My name is Chris, I am trying to raise money for a “Honey House” this is where beekeepers (apiarist) process honey from their beehives, at the moment we are processing a small amount in our home kitchen, this is not ideal as it is way too small to do large amounts of honey so our new business is not able to grow due to this limited space.

We would like to buy a portable building which suitable for honey processing. The building we chose is similar to a shipping container but made of suitable material for a small food processing plant. The building will be suitable for processing up to 500 hives which is a good amount for a small business like ours.

I started beekeeping for a hobby to help me to deal with long term depression and anxiety which I have suffered from for 20 years. This hobby had also helped me deal with a loss of a close friend who took her life because of depression. Depression has played a major part in my life and has affected my wife (my best friend) and my two children. My children who are young adults have never known me without depression and have seen the worst effects of it but also the fighting spirt in me I have to keep going.

Raising the funds for the honey house will help me with this wonderful business of helping save the bees which are slowly disappearing around the world and be in an industry where I will not be judged for having depression and anxiety. This business has brought my small family closer together and I feel all the better for it.

Your support is and always will be appreciated and we look forward to updating everyone on how we are doing with this venture.

Thank you for listening.

Chris.

Anxiety and Chronic Depression

M. Jiang BN(QUT) BVocEd & Train(C.Sturt) MMHN(CQU)

Depression is a common ailment that has affected people at some point

in their lives. There are basically two forms of depression, the first one is the common type which is usually related to ordinary everyday events e.g. perhaps you have had an argument with your best friend and he/she has broken off the relationship. If the problem is not resolved quickly depression and feelings of guilt can settle in. In general, such situations can be resolved quickly or you learn to live to accept the outcome.

However, with chronic depression the key starting point is usually an unresolved issue from deep in the individuals past. It maybe a minor issue that even the recipient can’t recall clearly but has stayed in the deep recesses of that person’s mind and has some influence in that person’s everyday life e.g. perhaps in some time past you have worked hard on a task for your parents but for some reason they have berated you and put your effort down. Such an undeserved belittlement can be repressed and passed into the deep recesses of the mind. There are 1001 ways of developing chronic depression which cannot be explored in this short article.

One of the ways that Christopher (The Honey Man) has experienced is by using a form of alternative therapy. Chris has been to TAFE and learnt how to look after bees and is now trying hard to expand his fledging business. Looking after bees is a highly engaging task and because it is so involved serves as an alternative form of therapy. As Chris’s business expands and his workload increases any unresolved issues from the past will stay deeper in Chris’s mind and may not reappear or have any effect on his current life style. Chris does need help with his current project as it is quite expensive to set up all the basics needed for bee keeping. Even a donation of $1.00 moves Chris towards achieving his goals
