  • my name is Cathy Ann and I'm a disabled US Army veteran on disability. I have 4 disabled dogs who are my emotional support dogs. There's Wikis my 3 legged mixed breed, Sandy senior border collie with Arthritis, Bogie 5lb chihiahua whose blind & Lorre a chug who was injured in a car accident.
  • I took in another dog who belong to my parents in June named BJ. BJ was a neglected Chihuahua who my parents adopted. He is also handicapped. He has no teeth. I took him in when both of my parents went to a nursing home this year. I needed a place to stay after coming home to Maine from PA so I could be near my parents. Here's where I ended up becoming a victim of real estate fraud.
  • In April of this year (2018) I was desperately looking for a place for me and my dogs. I knew I could never find an apartment so I looked for home or mobile home rentals or rent to own. Found a mobile home in bad shape that the owner Mr. Gayton said he'd rent to own to me. He said $6,000 down and a $1,000 down for 54 month. I said ok.i moved in June 1st. Paid faithfully every month.
  • In September I get a packet in the mail from a lawyer's office representing Monmouth Federal Credit Union. They said that where I was living was going into foreclosure and Mr. Gayton was informed of this in May. This was before I moved in. He already cashed my $6,000 and continued to take my $1,000 for June, July, August. He took my $9,000 and ran.
  • The paperwork I received from the CU said that Mr. Gayton owns around $63,000. The rent to own paperwork is no good. So At some point foreclosure will resume. The only way to be able to stay here is to buy it. Mr. Gayton has 3 leins on it. Which is part of the $63,000. Or I can raise as much as I can and use it for a down payment on a decent place .
  • Note this place had holes in the wall when I moved in. Inside and out. Bad well ( so I have to well filter on faucet or drink bottled water) that just the beginning.
  • BUT... ITS THE ONLY Place I could find that would let me keep my emotional support dogs. Most people have one or two but I have 4 ( plus my moms) who are also handicapped. They wouldn't last in a shelter if they went back. They are my family. They keep this silly, crippled vet going everyday. It it wasn't for them I'd be worse off. I can't get rid of them. So I have to somehow buy this dump and continue fixing it up or raise money so I can find a good home for us.
  • Thank you for reading this. I'm sorry it's so long.

Update posted by Cathy Ann Merrill at 03:13 am

For legal reasons I am not sure if I'm suppose to post copies of contract with Mr. Gayton or the CU Lawyer's documents. Since it has sensitive information about foreclosure. But if anyone has any questions. You can always email me. Also the photos Lorre and my parent's dog BJ.
