Campaign Story
My name is Mark Paull and I live in Montréal, Canada.
#101-5550 Trent, Cote St. Luc, Quebec Canada H4W 2B9
In 1967 I was 11 years old and diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. In my 52nd year of the disease my health has deteriorated significantly and due to comorbid chronic disease depression and diabetic neuropathy, I cannot work nor earn a daily living. In the past few years I have had severe hypoglycemic reactions and nearly [rainbow bridge].
In order to stay alive at this point I must regain control of my disease and modify my treatment regimens with the goal of reducing dangerous hyperglycemia. I have no days off with Type 1 Diabetes. It is relentless – 24 hours a day, seven days a week I have to test, inject, count carbs and be correct. If I get it wrong the consequences could be fatal.
To regain my health and control of sugars I am asking for help to raise funds to be able to purchase a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM). This is a device and method to track glucose levels throughout the day + night. CGM systems take glucose measurements at regular intervals, 24 hours a day, and translate the readings into dynamic data, generating glucose direction and rate of change reports. This medical device helps users manage glucose highs and lows. CGM can also contribute to better diabetes management by helping to minimize the guesswork that comes with making treatment decisions* based solely on a number from a blood glucose meter reading.

Diabetes Spectrum
“Older adults with type 1 diabetes are at high risk for severe hypoglycemia and may have serious comorbid conditions. Problems with cognition, mobility, dexterity, vision, hearing, depression, and chronic pain interfere with the ability to follow complex insulin regimens. With the development of geriatric syndromes, unpredictable eating, and frailty, treatment regimens must be modified with the goal of minimizing hypoglycemia and severe hyperglycemia.”
