Hello! My name is Natalee Nassar and with the support of The Central Ohio Parent Leadership Training Institute (COPLTI) I am making a real difference in my community. I have always been passionate about creating change within the world but I thought it was impossible. Ordinary people do not make a difference, or so I thought. My time with COPLTI has not only helped me realize that it is precisely ordinary people, on a local level, who are able to create the most effective change. It also gave me the skills and confidence to do so myself.

We here with COPLTI are united by our passion to create a lasting impact within our community. We are committed to teaching parents, grandparents and families how to become advocates for children and the most vulnerable, underrepresented members of our community. We teach ordinary parents who are passionate about improving the lifelong health, safety and community we belong to how to become practiced change agents for the next generation. Our 20-week course, which is provided free of charge, allows parents to refine the skills needed to create a lasting impact. Our directors personally interview and select each participant, ensuring that each class filled with the most passionate students from a variety of backgrounds.

WHY FOCUS ON PARENTS?

Parents are already leaders, they simply don’t realize it. We empower parents with the skills the need to become change agents for their children and family, enabling them to become the leaders they would like to see for their community. The development of communities of parents within the larger community allows targeted support for skills development and successful parent action in children which benefits the community as a whole. Helping facilitate systems change for parental involvement in policy and process decisions improves the lives of our children on a multi-generational level. We provide parents with the knowledge and skills to needed to effectively speak in a public forum, advocate and participate in the civic process. This is done in a family inclusive environment so these skills are introduced and reinforced at an early age as they are learned from their parents. The most important factor in a child’s success is parental involvement. We help facilitate that involvement in a way that greatly increases its effectiveness. Graduates of our class go on to expand our program which maximizes the effect of community involvement and a develops an ever-increasing coalition of parents.

All parents have the ability to become parent leaders.

They just need the opportunity.

WHAT IS THE CENTRAL OHIO PARENT LEADERSHIP TRAINING INSTITUTE?

The Central Ohio Parent Leadership Training Institute (COPLTI) is a community based initiative designed to bolster parental involvement and leadership skills. The 20-week course and civic practice provide parents detailed information on how change occurs within neighborhoods, states and beyond Parents are given open ended assignments that allow to focus on their personal interests while learning and furthering their own development, all within a supportive, knowledgeable and challenging environment. Our curriculum combines child development, leadership skills, and a comprehensive knowledge of the democratic process together into a stable foundation for immediate and ongoing generational support for the families we serve. We strive to create a strong community of families that are working together with towards shared goals and interests, nurturing our children and youth so that they may reach their fullest potential.

Our first class is nearing its halfway point and we are already seeing the results at the hands of our Parent Leaders. Our inaugural class has already spoken at school board meetings, community events, and educational opportunities. They have set their sites on issues like homelessness, unfair educational practices, literacy, improving relations with law enforcement, and more. We look forward to watching their progress but our goal is to equip as many parents as possible with these tools which is why we need YOUR help.

WHAT IS MY DONATION USED FOR?

Every single dollar donated goes directly to our efforts to support parents within Central Ohio. As our Parent Leaders graduate and become more effective community organizers, our message and impact expand further. As our program grows, so do the costs associated with it. COPLTI is committed to removing possible barriers that may stand in the way for families. Transportation, family style dinner and childcare at no cost for all families. These often-overlooked methods of support enable us to create advocates within our most ignored communities.

IS MY DONATION TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

Yes. COPLTI is overseen by Schealthness, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Schealthness is committed to improved the lives of the community through the avenues of schooling, health and wellness.

For each donation sent you will receive a confirmation email within a few minutes of donating. Once your payment is fully processed, you’ll also receive a receipt via email for your records. All money donated is allocated directly to COPLTI (minus approximately 6 processing fees from Go Get Funding and PayPal.)
