From "Drummer" to Great Britain "Paddler" my journey to the World Championships 2019
My Story:-
Thanks to your help I was able to take part and represent Great Britain in the 2018 European Dragon Boat Championships. In just 12 days time i will take part in the next set of trials to see if i can join the squad for the "World Championships" in Thailand August 2019.
For those of you who know my journey it began when i was just 8 years old as a drummer for the Kingfishers dragon boat club at the Wokingham Waterside centre. These amazing people helped, train and supported me to move from the drummers seat to a seat in the boat where i soon became a good paddler. During the summer of 2017 i took part in the Reading Dragon Boat festival where i met Peter and Matty Richardson who signed me up for the Great Britain under 18's training squad. The rest, as they say, is history. We returned home from Berlin with three bronze medals from the women's 500m, mixed 500m and mixed 200m. Not only was this trip an amazing adventure it has changed the course of my life and once i have done my GCSE's I would like to apply to universities to do a degree in Physiotherapy. The sport has taught me discipline and dedication, as well as becoming healthier through regular exercise.
I now train with the awesome Henley Dragons competing all over the country against some of the best dragon boat teams. We are proud to say we have just finished the Henley Winter Series, coming third over all.
This trip would not have happened had it not been for your generous donations and i hope you can see how valuable your support is.
This time we would like to offer something in return for your donations as i am really keen to get other young people into this sport and highlight to the local authorities how important it is for them to invest more money in sports for children like me.
