I very much enjoy helping others to let go of being stuck & embracing life. I am particularly passionate about helping people in 3 ^rd world countries who simply by circumstance are trapped in a vicious cycle. It is for this reason that I have chosen Thailand, in particular Pattaya where the streets are filled by 70% of western men looking to purchase cheap sex.

The majority of women come from Issan, the northeast region of Thailand. Issan is the poorest region of Thailand with a population of about 22 million. Most of the work is in agriculture.

Most people live off the land rice farming. The price for rice has been very unstable in the last years and rice farming is very hard physical work. Flooding and other issues have also affected the harvests and there is widespread poverty in the area. Many people are in debt. Most young men leave the countryside and head for the cities in search of work and financial security.

Many girls marry young, and often the marriage falls apart and they are left as sole caretakers of their children and ageing parents. They are faced with a heavy financial responsibility and with very little education and work experience, there are not many options for them.

They hear the stories from women that have met a husband in Pattaya and they are looking for the same fairy tale ending. They are desperate and so Pattaya seems like a dream destination for them. But upon arrival in Pattaya the truth catches up with them very fast. They realise that there only real option in Pattaya is to prostitute themselves.

The saddest side of this sex trade is when the parents can no longer feed their children they sell their child into the sex trade. By the time the child has become adult they have been beaten, abused, have little self esteem and often suicide.

March, 2019 I will be travelling to Pattaya for 1 month to as a volunteer to teach western cooking and safe food handling practices to the girls at the Tamar Center. This cooking program will run for 10 days, 6 hours a day. The Tamar Center will provide the kitchen, participants & food for the school to take place.

I looked at many volunteer programs costing $1600+. I couldn't find out where the money was actually going to go. Mostly there was a lot of focus on the $299 US joining fee so I decided to run my own by contacting centers all over to world.

Finally I found the beautiful Tamar Center. At the core of Tamar’s heart is the desire to provide the girls with an alternative to the often devastating job as a bar girl (prostitute). To achieve this goal, they offer various activities to help this emotionally defeated girls each step of their way into a new life. My cooking program will provide yet another chance for freedom.

I would like my work there to be as meaningful as possible supporting the participants as best I can. My goal is to raise $7,500. The money raised will go to paying any bar fees that are required. Many of the workers can't leave the bar without a bar fee of $42 AU. Recording, editing and setting up a site that can be used in the future for training when I am not there.

Nobody is smiling here...
