Campaign Story
Hello! We are a group of Early Childhood Education students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore. We are currently embarking on our 6-months Final Year Project (September 2018 to February 2019) - working with a refugee school in Malaysia.
Refugees are denied education in Malaysia, fortunately a group of refugee children have the opportunity to learn in this school that we are working with. However, as the school is fairly new, it does not have a program structure to follow, nor any proper learning resources to use in class.
So, with the training we have, and now the opportunity to help these children - we want to design a curriculum package that includes relevant learning materials for the school to use. The money raised will go into buying (1) picture books and (2) materials needed to make learning resources that will be used in lessons.
The curriculum package is planned for an entire school year and can be used for the years to come. This package will be tailored to the needs of the school, as well as designed based on research on early childhood theories and practices. All deliverables will also be trialled and reviewed by professionals for feedback to ensure good quality.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR] (2016) stated that “Refugees face two journeys, one leading to hope, the other to despair. It is up to us to help them along the right path”. By educating these refugee children, it provides them with the keys to a brighter future, it helps them find solutions for themselves and allows them to thrive, not just survive.
So, we invite you to join us on this journey, to play a part in helping these young children because education is the first step out of their predicaments.
