Soul Food Saturday – monthly meal for widows in Pakistan

I have been coordinating humanitarian development projects for over 4 years and am currently piloting a new project in Pakistan to support widows and their families. The aim is to create a safe, supportive community for them to share their stories, ambitions and challenges with others that have suffered loss over a warn, nutritious meal.

Total raised so far has enabled us to launch the first meal on 29th October for 20 people with the provision of cooking equipment, plates and utensils for the continuation of the monthly meals project.

£182.06 has been sent to Pakistan so far with the remaining funds supporting monthly meals up until December 2018.....please continue to donate to see this project bringing bereaved families together with some home cooked food and good company.

We will continue coordinating our widows support project in Punjab province with the assistance of volunteers from the region using local produce to produce traditional 'soul food' meals for the bereaved families who may often lack good quality food or someone to help with everyday chores and household duties.

The first monthly meal in Toba Tek Singh included widows and their children from both Christian and Muslim backgrounds and has been a huge success, with many positive comments from the beneficiaries.

Breakdown costs for 20 person meal as follows:

gas cylinder : 1,670 PKR

curry with chapati: 2.740 PKR OR curry with rice: 3.190 PKR

volunteer transport: 1,700 PKR

TOTAL: 6.560 PKR (around £45 including transfer fees per month)

Each meal will cost less than £50 including ingredients, water, gas and volunteer transport, if we reach target this will provide 4 healthy nutritious meals to 20 bereaved women and children in rural Pakistan until Feb 2019.
