AUNTIE’S CANCER BATTLE

My friend’s mom, Mrs. Prosie Nelly Ambil, a school principal, a loving mother of 7, a doting grandmother of 7 and a caring wife was diagnosed with Stage 4B Gallbladder Cancer last year May 31, 2017 at the age of 55. The cancer has metastasized to her pancreas and liver at the time of diagnosis. She was told there was no cure and the next step is only palliative care and was given 3 months to live.

The news was really shocking to the family as she lived a very healthy & active lifestyle, joining various dance sports events and other physical activities in her school. She is the first to be diagnosed with cancer in the family from both mother and father side thus her condition is new to them although they heard about the deadly cancer numerous times. They researched about the disease, interviewed cancer survivors and listened to different doctors. After many scans, biopsies, tests and other lab work, she underwent 3 cycles of chemotherapy and followed an immunotherapy approached to her diet. Every quarter, she undergoes a regular scan and the doctors were impressed at how the tumors decreased in size. For the past year, the cancer cells were seemed to be under control.

We really thank God for this miracle. Her condition suddenly deteriorated to worst after she took some food supplements hoping that it can cure her. Within the span of 2 weeks, her cancer cells became very aggressive. Unfortunately, it aggravated her condition and she is in a lot of pain. Now, the oncologists are recommending a very expensive type of chemotherapy drugs to save her. (Pembrolizumab, 2 vials /session) 1 session can cost 322,000 pesos excluding the other fees e.g. hospital, doctors, medicines, etc. My friend, as many of us do, loves their mom so much and will do everything to save her. They will try all possible ways available to save their mom even if it seems impossible.
