Greetings! This campaign is to raise fund for living cost to support my master study.

I am a college lecturer teaching Mathematics from Kuala Lumpur. In the past eight years of this exciting journey, it has truly been great joy to see the students I teach grow as I share my knowledge, as well as guiding and giving advice to young adults in life decision. I am constantly humbled and grateful to have such an opportunity to journey with them toward the end of their studies and be part of their lives.

As the years roll on, I grow in deep sense of my short-coming and great need to understand my subject deeper to be an excellent teacher, who not only cover required syllabus, but also expose students to greater appreciation of Mathematical knowledge and its application to various fields of human development.

You can also read my personal statement here.

At this point, I already accepted to study MA Mathematics at Katz School, Yeshiva University, New York. It is a coursework master with research component, that can be completed in 1-2 years time. I am also offered $6,000 scholarship to cover $33,000 tuition fee, and given assistantship worth up to $7,000 a year. Living cost in NY can be high, however discussion with a few friends who stayed there before shows that it is possible to live within $1,000 monthly.

While I am working on friendly loan to cover tuition and university fee, I hope that this campaign can help to provide for living expenses in NY for the first year, estimated at $12,000. Any amount received that exceed this target will be used for books and tuition.

How you can contribute:

1. Spread. Help me to publicize this through your facebook, twitter, instagram, etc... If possible, write a short testimony or paragraph on why would you encourage others to support me.

2. Donate. Each cent you contribute means I am a step nearer to the goal. You may donate through this page, or contribute offline to save card processing fees. Note that I have set minimum donation online through this page as $10, with good reason.

From previous campaign, this page is view by more than 8 thousands people. To achieve this goal of $12,000, I only need 1200 people to donate $10 each, that's about 1 in 7 person who view this page, and I believe that's workable!

3. Friendly loan. Consider giving me a friendly loan if you (or someone you know) have some extra fortune in hand and not using them in next few years. We may discuss how repayment can be made after earning the degree.

Do not feel obligated. Nonetheless, know from the bottom of my heart that I am deeply grateful of your kindness, no matter it is helping in publicity or chip in your donation, whether large or small, or introducing someone willing to provide a friendly loan. Gracias.

If you would like to get in touch with me or know more about my dream, please feel free to drop a message here with your email/contact, i'll respond soon! ^^

  • Hi Mr. Denis, I don’t know if you remember me; but I used to be in the class of 1401D and studied under you for about 3 months. After doing A levels for a little bit, I decided to go to INTI to study the American Degree Program to pursue my studies in the U.S. Currently, I am finishing my last year in the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and I am going to graduate with a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering. Although my time in MCKL was short, I will always treasure the memories I made there. It played a huge part in building my character, and made me who I am today. By doing double math, my math skills improved significantly, and eventually I got accepted into the Mechanical Engineering program here in Wisconsin. As a student in the U.S., I can relate to your situation as I know how the system here works. Studying here is expensive, and living cost in NY is going to cost a lot too. However, working on campus or even out of campus (not necessarily legal, but it is widely done) can help with your situation too. With that said, I would like to donate a small part of my first paycheck as an intern here in the U.S. to the pursue of your American Dream. Although it isn’t much, I hope that you never give up in chasing your dreams and achieving your goals. Hopefully, the next time we’ll meet will be here in the U.S.; I wish you the best of luck in your journey, and feel free to add me on Facebook (just search my name) if you have questions about anything. Best Regards, Ji Shern (Shane)
