Ate’s Bunso: My Brother’s Medical Assistance

May 31, 2018, my brother, Mark Adrian Maranan, 19 years old, was admitted in the hospital for a rapidly increasing white blood cell count. It started as tonsilopharyngitis which is the inflammation of the throat. We thought it was just a simple soar throat until we were told otherwise. His WBC count started at 66k (normal count is 5k to 10k) and escalated to a 190k count. Something was wrong; we were just not sure what. It was until his doctor informed us that my brother has Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and several blood transfusions. Unfortunately, our family cannot shoulder all the expenses. My father is a company driver and my mother manages a small laundry shop. My parents are working hand in hand just to be able to give my brother, my only brother, the things that he needs.

This is the only way that I could help my family, the only way that I could help my only brother. I love my brother more than I love myself. So here I am, knocking on your hearts for help. Any amount would be of great help to us, to him. Any amount could be an extension to his life.
