Campaign Story
Last May 2018, my dad was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. This started a year ago, from a simple pain in the stomach, frequent feeling of being bloated, a decrease in frequency of his toilet visit. After a few months he had this almost 2 weeks of pain in his stomach. This then led him to visit a gastroentorologist, where he found out that in his intestine was a tumor that had blocked 95% of the passageway for his digestive tract.
My dad is a graduate of the University of the Philippines, Los Banos where he finished his studies as an agriculturist. He finished his Master's Degree at the Ateneo School of Government last 2015 through a government grant. He has been working for two decades for the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority, a branch of the Department of Agriculture which studies on fiber materials, and has went around the nation to help and teach farmers, business owners, and various LGU authorities about the benefits of this agricultural product and it's contribution to the development of the nation.
He is a great father, the man who was our first coach and one-on-one partner. He was very supportive of every endeavor we tried be it sports, music or any other hobbies that captured our interests. He gives us allowances for our dates, when I was in high school, and currently with my brother. He taught us the value of reading, for a man who's way beyond his time listening to informational youtube videos to a man who falls asleep to listening to recorded discussions beyond agriculture to basketball, politics, social media and even entrepreneurship.
Ironic as it may seem, but my fondest memory of my dad was when I had my first seizure episode at home. Having seizures wasn't something I'd be fond of but what happened after the episode and after I was admitted to the emergency room is something I'll never forget. My mom had went home to tend and to make sure something doesn't happen to my brother and grandmother so my dad and I were the only ones who were left at the emergency room. I was discharged after regaining consciousness and had assured that I'm okay. We had to walk home and with what had happened I didn't have my slippers with me. My dad took of his slippers, gave it to me and walked with me home bare-footed while assisting me in walking.
As much as we want to go out for this coming Father's Day, he is currently undergoing his first chemotherapy session. And this was one of the best ideas that came to my mind for a father's day gift. The gift of admiration and love for a man who has nothing been short of an incredible father who despite his own trials, failures and roadblocks continues to inspire us, his sons, to become a better person and a better man.
We've already exhausted all personal means we could, and were given Guarantee Letters by the DOH and PCSO. And we still need to cover at least Php700,000.00 for his medicine (Oral Chemotherapy and Intravenous Chemotherapy)
