Belmont’s Laptop Upgrade Help

What's this about?

This fundraiser is to help me raise money to replace my current laptop. It has been starting to break down and I need to replace it before it completely dies and leaves me in a sticky situation. Any and all help would be eternally appreciated!

I have had my current computer since 2011 and it has been a constant in both my daily life and academic career. I have also had the privilege of using it for video editing, voice acting, and programming jobs over the Internet. Without my computer, I won't be able to continue doing those jobs or be able to use it for any schooling.

What's wrong with your current machine?

My current laptop has only in recent weeks been showing signs of breaking down due to age. The fans are not keeping up with heat output and that has caused a couple of quite unsettling issues. The first of which is a recurring screen blackout that is a symptom of GPU card overheat. The second problem is an ongoing issue where the cooling fans are emitting a buzzing that is growing louder every week or so. I have read this to be an issue with MSI computer fans slowly angling up into their housing over their lifetime and both causing damage to the blades and cooling less efficiently. Both of these problems show that my laptop is not going to make it too much farther.

Why fundraising?

Truthfully, if I was able to afford the laptop myself somehow I wouldn't dream of asking others to help me; especially without being able to do something in return. This year has been especially hard financially, with tuition and insurance payments leaving less and less from my paychecks each month. The payments combined with being unable to work full hours for some of my pay periods have left me in dire financial straights. I sought out credit payments as a possible solution but a lack of credit history left that as a no go. Now that my computer is acting like a terminal case I am looking to others for help. This does not mean that I am wanting this laptop for free. I have only asked for a percentage of the new computer's price and will fund the rest myself.

What is this new machine? Why so expensive?

I am not the type of person to upgrade their devices annually or simply to get the newest tech. That said, I feel that being able to get a machine that is as future-proofed as possible (but away from the bleeding edge of technology) will enable me to go another seven years or so without having to upgrade again.

This new laptop will also enable me to create Twitch streams and recorded videos of PC games in the hopes of entertaining the masses and giving a little something back to my community. It will also give me the overhead to work on even more video editing and voice jobs while lessening the possibility of crashes from lack of GPU or system memory.
