Care kits for the homeless – São Paulo, Brazil

In 2017, it was estimated that São Paulo is home to 20-25 thousand homeless people, increasing by 4.1% each year (Source). The city center is filled with these people, especially given the recent building fire on the 1st of May 2018, which has left hundreds living in tents. The building was occupied by over 400 squatters, alike several other buildings within the city centre (Source).

I'm a 17-year-old high school student and together with a 19-year-old friend, I began selling bracelets in order to raise money for the project. Nonetheless, we intend to expand the project's budget through this website, given the gravity of the issue. We aim to assist the thousands of homeless people in São Paulo, by providing care kits including, but not limited to: cereal bars, sandwiches, bananas, water bottles, tissues/baby wipes, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a soap bar, bandaids, a comb, sanitary pads and socks. Depending on the situation of the person and the current season, we may provide shoes, a blanket, sweaters and clothing items. Moreover, if they have pets we will provide them suitable food, a pet house and vital care items.

We intend to update the project with progress pictures and videos during the kit distribution and it is entirely non-profit. We have estimated a price of 15 dollars per kit and intend to help at least 100 people. Thus, 1500 dollars will be dedicated for basic needs and an additional 500 for pets or additional items. If our goals is exceeded, we will continue to pursue the project and assist more.
