Help cover our sister’s Medical Costs and get her back on the Bike!

My sister Nadia was on her bike when she got hit by a truck. She returned from work on the late afternoon of the 18 ^th of May in Mexico City. She was on her bike. A double trailer truck abruptly turned from the second lane, hitting her and dragging her under the wheel for several meters. She remained conscious, and thanks to the help of several passers-by, an ambulance was called and my family was contacted. When my other sister arrived, she and her bike were still under the truck.

Upon arrival to the hospital, she immediately entered surgery. The diagnosis included 3 ^rd grade contusions throughout her body, 3^rd degree cervical sprain, fractured hip and exposed fracture of the humerus, tissue and muscle tear and total skin loss on her right leg. Initially, there was a high chance she would lose her leg, but fortunately that risk is over now. She has experienced ten surgeries since then. The skin damage is so extensive she needs grafts covering from her knee to the abdomen. Her health has recently declined rapidly due to an unattended infection on the exposed area, and my family decided to transfer her to another hospital after seeking for a second medical opinion.

So far she has been in intensive care for 31 days, and that has taken a toll on her physical condition and on her mood. Now the doctors have found water in her lungs, and in her last surgery a catheter was left in place to drain it. She can only take food through a catheter too.

Although her medical insurance for major accidents, the total amount covered (around 2,000,000 MXN / 96.000 CHF / 98,000 USD) is already over. She still needs at least four surgeries over the following months, plus hospital intake and a long recovery therapy afterwards. Our family has squeezed all our savings to gather that money, and it is hard to estimate how much more money will be needed to get her out of danger, but it is clear that it is a huge amount of money... especially for Mexican salaries.

We are a bit desperate, and decided to give a chance to social media and ask to our friends and connections for donations to get her medical costs covered, and to share this crowdfunding campaign in their social networks, hoping that if this reaches enough people that are willing to donate a little, we can help Nadia get on her bike soon enough!
