Hi, my name is Shakti and I am a Baritone with a background in Music Theater, presently training to sing Opera - and I'm based in Mumbai, India.

I have been offered a place on a prestigious summer Opera program in Europe to study and perform roles in three different operas, whose proposed program features the below Operas - in each of which I have been offered a role!

Studying on this program will help me improve my vocal technique, work with accomplished international faculty and have experience singing with an orchestra and collborate with international artists - all if which are important experiences in my development as a vocal artist.

Due to personal financial challenges, I am seeking support to help raise the tuition plus travel, visa and ancillary costs. Any amount you can contirbute can go a long way - so thank you for considering my cause and believing in me!

ABOUT MY JOURNEY

I have been a student of the stage since my early school years and have continued to train to improve at my craft in any possible way. Over the last ten years I have been working as a full time artist as an actor,singer, dancer - also working with schools across India training students in the performance arts, passing on my training from mentors and resources all over the world. Given that our vocal/operatic training resources are so limited in the country , summer courses abroad are a crucial learning experience- an opportunity to train with professionals in the business and to learn language and pieces in the setting where they were originally written and are frequently performed. As an aspiring Opera singer, this will be a great opportunity for me to train with international experts and find my footing as a performing artist on an international stage.

Some of my recent achievements include being shortlisted as one of the finalists for the Young Musician of the Year competition, organized by the Olga & Jules Craen Foundation.I have also had the opportunity to sing in the Royal Opera Gala held at the Royal Opera House Mumbai - India's only standing Opera House, in addition to other operatic roles which are listed in my cv below.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

Running from May 20 - June 18, 2018 the month long Opera Academy Program run by International Faculty will cover 3 Operas and 2 Chrous, 2 evening recitals and a total of six different performances - alongside Masterclasses and coaching sessions.

The Operas include:
1.Maurice Ravel’s L’enfant et les Sortilèges,
2.Kurt Weill’s Street Scene,
3.Giacomo Puccini’s La Rondine,
4.Chorus:Beethoven Mass in C Majorand Bach Magnificat.

After appeals for financial aid to the program, I have been offered an almost 60% scholarship by the faculty, leaving me to raise the balance fees to confirm my place by next week. The total fees for the program are $4590, out of which I have been granted a part tuition scholarship,

A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY!

Having limited Opera training resources in a country like India, one has to rely on international visiting faculty for training and development. With the reopening of India's only opera house, the Royal Opera House Mumbai, opportunities in Classical music are slowly springing up. Opportunities like this summer course will help me to grow as a musician and enhance my technique - helping me towards my goal of becoming a world class vocalist.

The last two summers have seen me turn down amazing opportunities to sing in a study program in Germany as well as the Halifax Summer Opera Program due to lack of finances. This year after seeing improvement in my vocal technique and performance, this program has offered me great learning opportunities which are an important experience in my learning process - and hopefully I will be able to take up the opportunity with your or your company's assistance!
