The hygiene situation in Uganda is dire, with approximately 2 million Ugandans living without toilet facilities. ‘Sanitation’ generally refers to the provision of facilities and services for the safe disposal of human waste, and research shows that good sanitation can have major health advances as well as help to reduce child mortality and poverty. During the building of the twin compost toilets in Navamundu, Kampala in summer 2018, our project leader Lydia and the team of engineers will work with the community, particularly with a women's initiative group, to ensure the toilet is properly used, regularly cleaned and maintained. They will also run hygiene and WASH workshops. The compost will eventually be used for agricultural purposes or sold as a source of income. This multifaceted project will deliver enormous health benefits to the community of Namavundu in Kampala.
We've raised £1,486 so far through two fundraiser nights out, a charity poker night and donations!
Kid’s Club Kampala work in 18 underprivileged communities in Uganda, reaching up to 4,000 children. You can find out more about them here - http://www.kidsclubkampala.org/
