Please Stand by Connor on his journey to the International Youth Swimming Competition in Greece

Connor Theron, our 15 year old son, is a competitive swimmer affiliated to Swimlab Aquatic Academy in Wynberg, Cape Town South Africa.

Swimlab has been invited by the Greek Swimming Federation to tour Greece in July and compete in an International Age Group Swimming Tour. The swimmers will be competing in three different competitions in Greece namely,

• LEN Loutraki International Swimming Meet 16 – 17 of June 2018.
• Loutraki International Swimming Meet 23rd of June 2018.
• Greek National Swimming Championship Men – Women 29 – 30 of June & 01 of July 2018

These galas will be the start of Connor's international swimming career and will give him the opportunity to compete against the very best swimmers worldwide within his age group. Now that he is becoming a more serious and competitive swimmer and qualifying for so many competitions, the financial strain can be taxing but we will continue to support him in achieving his goals and dreams.

.........Connor was recruited by Coach Hilton Slack, a contracted swimming coach at Wynberg Boys Jr School, at the age 9 who felt he has potential to become a great swimmer. He has been swimming at Swimlab ever since. Connor has steadily grown into a dedicated, strong swimmer, qualifying to attend various competitions in various states in South Africa. His first competition was the Western Province Regional Level 1 Championships at age 12 where he won his first bronze medal for 200m freestyle. He has since smashed various personal best times and travelled within SA to compete at galas, competitions and championships. He has also qualified and swam at the SA Schools Championships for his province and school.

His most recent championship he qualified and competed at was his first Inter Provincial Club Swimming competition where he and his team represented the Western Cape in Port Elizabeth South Africa in January 2018. He won gold for 200m backstroke and bronze for 100m backstroke.

He has also qualified and competed at the SA Swimming Grand Prix 2018 in Stellenbosch in February this year. This was his first opportunity to compete with swimmers such as Cameron Van Der Berg and Ayrton Sweene.

Currently, Connor has made the qualifying times for the NCAA women’s swimming division for University scholarships and is now working towards qualifying for the NCAA men’s division so that he can apply for scholarships and swim, study and compete in the USA. But first, his main goal right now is to train and prepare for trails for 2020 Common Wealth Games.

This is and will be a long journey for Connor but he has the right frame of mind and determination to obtain his goals. Connor has the amazing ability to rise above himself and the occasion and get the result he sets out to accomplish. He might be tiny in build but his heart and determination never allows him to feel intimidated by grown boys or men when racing. He tackles the race head on making sure that these swimmers have the need to beat him and not him beat them.
