Help the hands that helped our Papa

পাপা আমাদের ছেড়ে যাবার পর আপনাদের সমবেদনা এবং শোকবার্তার জন্য আমার ভাই শাকের এবং আমি আন্তরিকভাবে আপনাদের ধন্যবাদ জানাতে চাই। এইরকম একটি কঠিন সময়ের মধ্যে দিয়ে যাবার সময় শোককে শক্তিতে পরিণত করার জন্য আপনারা আমাদের পাশে আছেন, এটাই আমাদের জন্য অনেক বড় ব্যাপার।

আনুষঙ্গিক বিভিন্ন ধর্মীয় এবং সামাজিক কার্যক্রমের মাঝে আমরা বিশেষভাবে কিছু মানুষের অবদানের কথা মনে করতে চাই। এদেরই একজন হলেন মাহমুদ ভাই, যিনি গত ৬ মাস ধরে শেষ দিন পর্যন্ত পাপার সেবায় নিয়োজিত ছিলেন।

ইসলামী ধ্যানধারণায় অনুপ্রাণিত এই ব্যক্তি তার আমলের মাধ্যমে নেকী অর্জন করতে সচেষ্ট ছিলেন। তার বিশ্বাস ছিল যে তিনি পাপাকে সেবা করলে সেটাই তার সর্বোত্তম ইবাদত হিসেবে আল্লাহর দরবারে গৃহীত হবে। এমনই বিশ্বাসের ওপর ভিত্তি করে তিনি পরম মমতার সাথে নিয়মিতভাবে পাপাকে গোসল করাতেন, পরিষ্কার করিয়ে দিতেন এবং খাইয়ে দিতেন। এমন অনেক কিছুই তিনি করেছেন পাপার জন্য যেটা আমরা তার সন্তান হয়েও সবসময় করে উঠতে পারিনি।

যে ব্যক্তি তার দুই হাতে পাপার সেবাযত্নে মগ্ন ছিলেন, সেই দুই হাত ঋণের শেকলে বাঁধা থাকুক এটা আমরা মানতে পারছিনা।

শাকের এবং আমি দুইজন এই বিষয়ে অগ্রগামী ভূমিকা নিয়েছি। আপনি যদি যাকাত প্রদান করে থাকেন অথবা এই বছর ঈদুল ফিতরের ফিতরা দান করবেন বলে নিয়ত করেছেন, আপনি যদি এসকল নিয়মনীতি নাও মেনে চলেন তবুও এই ব্যক্তিকে পাপার শেষ নিশ্বাস পর্যন্ত সেবা করার জন্য যদি ধন্যবাদ জানাতে চান তবে আমরা আপনাদের অনুরোধ করব যেন মাহমুদ ভাইয়ের জন্য যাকাতের নামে, বা ফিতরার নামে মুক্তহস্তে দান করবেন।

আমাদের বিশ্বাস পাপা নিশ্চয়ই খুশি হবেন এটা জেনে যে দুই হাত তার সেবায় নিয়োজিত ছিল সেই দুই হাতকে ঋণমুক্ত করার জন্য আমরা আর আপনারা সবাই মিলে চেষ্টা করছি। এই আমাদের এই মুহূর্তের বড় প্রাপ্তি।

Me and my brother Shaker want to thank you very much for the kind gesture of condolence and prayers you have conveyed over the unthinkable demise of our Papa. Words fall short but its your real intention of love you always had for Papa, me and Shaker that we could really feel during this hour of loss we are going through. Thank you.

While we conduct the rites and rituals, we don’t want to forget the tireless contribution and service made for Papa by many individuals. Among those, we specifically want to introduce to you Mahmud Bhai, the carer who had been by Papa’s side for the last 6 months until the last day. Even though Papa left behind us - his two sons, his wife and many well-wishers and friends, it was Mahmud Bhai who was by his bedside at the hospital till the last breathe.

Powered by his religious trust and belief on his ‘aml’ (deeds, karma), it was his hands which washed off Papa all along and till the end. It was his hands which cleaned him day in and day out and it was his hands which fed him when we were not there physically to do it at all times. However, we learnt that he has a debt and he doesn’t know how to settle it given the fact that Papa is not there anymore.

We really cannot accept that these very hands which served Papa be chained under the shackles of debt.
