Campaign Story
I am being sued for making public forum posts in support of another author and donating to her legal fund by the person she is suing for breach of contract and other torts. I am named along with six others and twenty "to be determined" place holder names in a suit that is asking for over $300,000 in damages plus punitive damages.
Also, since I live in New York because my husband is in the military and this is where he is stationed, and this case is filed in California, I have to secure representation in both states.
I am asking the author community for help. I know it's the holidays and money is tight. And I will use the funds raised for my legal fees.
I honestly don't know how long or how much this is going to cost to defend, but I promise to be a good steward and anyone who donates and leaves a means to do so, I will send you a thank you note for helping me and my family in this time of our need. It's the least I can do. Thank you.

Update posted by Elizabeth West at 07:11 pmI want to thank everyone who has given. The funds raised + some of my own royalties have allowed me to retain a lawyer and stuff is in progress as well as it can be. It will cost a little more, but I got it. Others served after me still

I have paid $5,000 in retainer fees to get my case begun and motions filed. That would not have been as possible without all of your support.I wanted to crawl under. . . . .
