As a voluntary group, we are turning to our friends, to the friends of our friends, and to all of you who will be touched by a young man’s fight for his life and rights, a tragedy which affects us all greatly.

We have been supporting this young man for several months, and his struggle has not been made public until now.
However, today, this young man and all of those who worked hand in hand for him need you, because our goal is finally in sight: Thajan has been detained for almost 3 years by the immigration services. He has now obtained a humanitarian visa, the key which can open the door to freedom and safety, and a real opportunity for him to start a new life elsewhere and rebuild himself. At this stage of our project, we need help from each and everyone of you. Every donation, even a small one, is important. By offering him an airplane ticket, we give him the opportunity to start a new life in a hosting country. This ticket is expected to be paid by himself. Thajan is only 27 years old, he has no belonging, but he has got a life ahead.

For whom?
While he was still very young, Thajan, in life-threatening danger, was compelled to flee his home country for political facts. He fell into the people’s hands, who took him to a neighboring country and left him as an illegal immigrant, whereas he should have arrived there and be admited as a legal refugee who can benefit from basic human rights and physical security. He has been imprisoned since December 2014 by the immigration services. He fights to come out of jail, to recover from the war experience, to overcome the traumas experienced and to lead a normal life.

Why?
Today, he will be released, welcomed safely in his new hosting country and helped. However, an obstacle stands in the way: he has to pay for the airplane ticket.
Of course, he does not possess anything, and has no family anymore. Once more, we mobilized our ressources to provide him with a suitcase, some clothes and toilet articles. And in order not to let a parameter such as an airplane ticket wipe out so many efforts, today, we appeal for funds.

Our commitment
Ideally, to achieve this we need around 1’000 chf (approximately 1’000 dollars), depending on when the airplane ticket will be taken.
If we collect more money than necessary to buy it, the leftover will be used for Thajan education, an essential tool for integration, which he will not be able to afford otherwise.
Furthermore, upon request, we commit ourselves to inform anyone interested to know how the money was used. We act as guarantors for Thajan, who we consider today as our brother.

We count on your understanding, because we cannot mention the names of the countries which are involved, as it is a political matter and a sensitive subject.

One of us explains her first encounter with Thajan: "I first met him by chance. I was helping volunteers in the immigration detention center, and I was assigned an inmate so that he could get out of the cell, talk, and find help for basic necessities. I found out that he was fighting for recognition of his refugee status and for putting an end to his incarceration. He impressed me: despite the harsh living conditions destroying the health and the will of the detainees, he was going on learning English thanks to the visits of the volunteers, and moving forward with administrative procedures in that language, by entrusting with his letters the humanitarian volunteers. Thajan, despite major obstacles, and despite the fact that the war made him an orphan, was still holding to some belief and dreaming."
How not to support him? At the beginning, we brought him food and attention, we took care of his health in spite of our lawlessness as volunteers, and then we brought his letters to the concerned embassy... It seemed ridiculous compared to the will that he showed. Then, after getting to know him, we supported him with letters, attesting to his fight, we found finally a free lawyer in the host country he was hopping for. We saw him facing rejections or being out of the administrative deadlines because of the slowness of the correspondence, and starting again from the beginning, where many would have quit and brake down .
Recently, when we all began to be plagued by doubts that he could rebuild his life, not longer finding words and faith... thanks to the involvement of the lawyer and to the daily commitment of so many volunteers, he finally obtained the humanitarian visa. This rarely granted visa, promise for him to leave the prison and to be sent to the host country he had so much dreamed of!

Nous, groupement de volontaires, nous adressons à tous nos amis, et aux amis de nos amis, et à tous ceux qui seront touchés comme nous par le combat d’un jeune homme pour la vie, et par sa foi dans ses droits.

Il s’agit d’une cause que nous soutenons depuis de nombreux mois, et qui n’avait pas été rendue publique.
Mais aujourd’hui, un jeune garçon et tous ceux qui ont travaillé main dans la main pour lui, ont besoin de vous, car nous touchons enfin au but: Thajan, en détention de l’immigration depuis bientôt 3 ans, a obtenu un visa humanitaire qui lui promet liberté, sécurité, et possibilité de se reconstruire ailleurs. Chaque geste compte, pour faire aboutir ses efforts continus et les nôtres, en lui offrant son billet d’avion pour son pays d’accueil, normalement à sa charge. À seulement 27 ans, il ne possède rien, mais il a encore la vie devant lui.

Pour qui?
En danger de mort dans son pays, dû à des faits politiques, alors qu’il était encore très jeune, Thajan a fuit, et est tombé aux mains de personnes qui l’ont conduit dans un pays voisin, l’y laissant en tant qu’immigrant illégal, alors qu’il aurait dû y trouver une place de droit et en sécurité en tant que réfugié.
Pour cette raison, il est aujourd’hui prisonnier de services de l’immigration depuis décembre 2014. Il se bat chaque jour pour guérir de son expérience de la guerre, et faire de la prison du passé.

Pour quoi?
Aujourd’hui, il sera libéré, accueilli en sécurité dans son nouveau pays, et aidé. Dernier obstacle cependant: le billet d’avion à sa charge.
Bien sûr, il ne possède aucun bien, et n’a plus de famille. Nous avons mobilisé nos forces pour lui constituer une valise de vêtements et de produits de toilette. Et pour écarter ce dernier obstacle, un billet d’avion qui représente un obstacle financier sur notre chemin, nous lançons aujourd’hui cet appel, au nom de tous les efforts généreux et solidaires engagés dans cette cause.

Notre engagement
Nous avons estimé le prix du billet, en fonction du moment auquel il sera pris, à environ 1’000chf.
Si cet appel récolte plus d’argent que le prix investi dans le billet, le surplus sera utilisé pour toute formation utile à l’intégration de Thajan, et qui ne sera pas inclue dans l’aide humanitaire qu’il recevra.
Nous nous engageons par ailleurs à transmettre de quelle façon l’argent aura été utilisé à tous ceux qui le souhaitent. Nous nous portons en effet garants de celui qui est aujourd’hui pour nous un petit frère.

Nous en appelons à votre compréhensions sur le fait que les pays concernés ne soient pas mentionnés, étant donné que le sujet est politique et délicat.

L’une de nous raconte sa rencontre avec Thajan: « Je l’ai rencontré d’abord par hasard. J’apportais mon aide aux volontaires se rendant au centre de détention de l’immigration, et on m’a assigné un détenu, pour qu’il puisse sortir de cellule, parler, et trouver de l’aide pour des biens de première nécessité. J’ai découvert qu’il se battait pour faire reconnaître son statut de réfugié et pour mettre fin à son incarcération. Il m’a impressionnée: malgré les conditions sanitaires et de vie dures et spartiates qui rongent la santé et la volonté des détenus, dont aucun n’entamait de telles démarches, il continuait d’apprendre l’anglais grâce aux volontaires qui le visitaient, et poursuivait ses démarches administratives dans cette langue en confiant ses lettres à ces volontaires humanitaires. Thajan, malgré des obstacles majeurs, et malgré que la guerre ait fait de lui un orphelin, se battait et rêvait encore. »
Comment ne pas le soutenir? Nous lui avons apporté au début, comme aux autres, de la nourriture et de l’attention, avons veillé au mieux sur sa santé malgré notre non-droit de volontaires, puis avons porté ses demandes de visa humanitaire… Cela paraissait dérisoire par rapport à la volonté dont il faisait preuve. Alors, après avoir appris à le connaître, nous l’avons soutenu par des lettres attestant de son combat, avons trouvé une avocate gratuite dans le pays d’accueil pour lequel il se battait. Nous l’avons vu essuyer les refus ou se retrouver hors délais administratifs à cause de la lenteur des réponses à lui arriver et de ses lettres à parvenir à destination, et recommencer à chaque fois à zéro, là où nombreux auraient baissé les bras et sombré.
Et il n’y a pas si longtemps, alors que tous nous commencions à être rongés par le doute qu’il puisse se reconstruire une vie, comme il en rêvait de façon si persévérante, alors que nous commencions nous-même à ne plus trouver les mots ni la foi… grâce à l’implication de l’avocate et de tant de volontaires au quotidien, il a enfin obtenu le visa humanitaire. Ce visa si difficile à obtenir, rarement concédé, lui promet de sortir de détention et d’être envoyé dans le pays d’accueil dont il a tant rêvé!
