Campaign Story
A topic that is rarely addressed is bullying in our schools. Kids are bullying kids, from subtle gestures to aggressive attacks. Some oblivious to their actions while others are intentional.
Bullying is serious, it can lead to depression and even suicide, and it's not being addressed in our schools.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Jody Burch, former professional rugby player for Western Province. After travels locally and abroad, Jody returned to Cape Town and started a charity that focusses on educating schools and children around this destructive activity that everyone seems so unaware of.
He often visits schools in the rural areas of the Western Cape to talk to the kids and teachers as well as our more prominent schools, when he's invited. He has a number of projects to help children in schools and children on the streets, but I wanted to help him with his bullying message in particular. I recently watched a series called "Thirteen Reasons Why" which is all about bullying and the terrifying effects it has on children - worth a watch if you want to know more.
In order to aid this charity, I'm hosting a Christmas in July event on 22 July 2017 in Century City, Cape Town. We have invited prominent figures such as our Mayor, a KykNet TV Show Star and our Springbok rugby team coach and players. Our speaker is Andre du Toit, the Big Positive guy and his topic is "What a Wonderful World".
We hope for this event to be uplifting for all who attend, but also create an awareness around this epidemic that is not being addressed.
We have a silent auction throughout the evening, 100% of the proceeds go to Jody's NGO which is called Born to be Reborn.
These funds will make the event possible and help Jody reach more schools and more children with the amazing work that he's doing so selflessly.
Thank you in advance.
