DFW Canines for Veterans is a 501c3 non profit organization. We train service for dogs completely FREE to combat veterans suffering from PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury and or mobility issues. We are 100% volunteer based so 100% of all donations are directed back into the program. We personally raise the money ourselves and from public donations. We do not receive government or insurance assistance as this is not covered.
99% of our dogs are extensively evaluated and pulled directly from kill shelters!
It takes us on average $20,000 to train one service dog. We are in desperate need of a indoor training facility. Over the past years we have been training at the park. This is very hard on our disabled veterans. We now have use of one acre of property, so building an indoor training facility is in order!
Having a indoor facility would mean the following:
Shelter from inclement weather. Training of more service dogs to help even more combat veterans. Wheelchair accessible training. More detailed and refined training. Recreational area for veterans in crisis and/or group therapy. Sleeping area for veterans who travel to our facility for training. We have several that commute over 4 hours ONE way!
Each day 22 veterans commit suicide and that's unacceptable to us. With the help of a service dog, these combat veterans are able to regain their freedom. They wrote a blank check for all of us, now it's time to help them.

Update posted by Melissa Caposello at 10:29 pmToday we roughly went over the area where our new training facility will be! We could not be more excited! This is a huge project, but the veteran and the dogs we save are worth it!!!
