Campaign Story
Greetings!
Hi! I am Clark from the Philippines. My wife Karen recently delivered twin baby boys last January 13, 2017 but unfortunately, they were born too early (25 weeks and 4 days to be exact), in the field of medicine, they are what doctors would consider as very premature babies who are, at present, in an ever present struggle to survive.
On January 7, Karen’s water broke. This made the situation critical as karen might deliver the babies too soon. The doctors tried to prolong the labor but they were only able to delay it by a couple of days. On the 13th of January 2017,both babies were born via NSD. Kaeden, the first baby, had a weight of 1lbs 4oz, and Kyler, the 2nd one, was 1lbs 1oz which are too small for their age as they are considered extremely low birth weight.
Although they survived childbirth, as premature babies they are both at the mercy of a wide array of complications. A majority of their organs, such as the heart, lungs, and brain, are too frail and small to survive and develop properly without the proper facilities and equipment. While it is certainly possible, having a 6 month baby in the Philippines is extremely difficult and expensive since the few hospitals that do cater to premature babies are private hospitals that often have exorbitant fees due too the fact that they utilize state of the art equipment not found in the country.
Kaeden and Kyler are currently admitted in the NICU, with nurses aiding them in the struggle to survive 24/7. However, since a lot goes into ensuring that they both receive the best medical attention to increase their chances of survival, the hospital bill increases rapidly on a daily basis, with the hospital charging us approximately $800 each day! As of this writing, our running bill amounts to $50,000 after a month of treatment and will continue to increase since the babies will be staying for around 3-4 months, depending on the situation. Our goal at present is to hopefully raise around $80,000 for the hospital bill and their treatment. We pray for the health of our babies and hope that their situation develops for the best. Your donations will be greatly appreciated.
