Campaign Story
"On 29th January 2016 the lights went out a bit. Matt Warin, one of the kindest, friendliest and most decent bloke any of us have had the fortune to meet was in a collision with a car whilst cycling home. The brain injury he sustained in the accident was profound and life changing. Matty is now in the Holy Cross Hospital where he receives rehabilitation and the 24 hour care he needs. Those of us who have spent time with Matty can see that he is still with us, at least some of the time. More progress is possible and needed though, by his friends and family of course but most of all by Matty himself.
Though the care and therapies he receives already are excellent, his closest family are looking at all available means to improve his recovery still further. Neurologic music therapy to help redevelop communication skills, taken from him in the accident, started on 20th February. Regular foot massage to stimulate and develop the pathways between his brain and other parts of his body is about to start. They are also looking into additional equipment that might benefit him, at the moment in particular a motor for his wheelchair. This would enable us to take him outside more easily and safely so he can access a greater variety of stimulation in an outdoors environment.
These must be privately funded, however, hence this page.
The last thing Tom Hatton and Matty agreed to do before the accident was the London-Edinburgh-London bike ride - 900 miles of it - in 5 days. https://londonedinburghlondon.com
Matty can't make it this time round, but his cousin Tim and his good friends Tom, Phil and Iain are going to do the ride in his honour. Any sponsorship raised will go for the cost of Matty's extra therapies and equipment, helping him to carry down on the most difficult road any of us can imagine. He is not alone though and any help you can lend him at this time would be massively appreciated. Cheers."

Update posted by Tom Hatton at 09:57 pmSo the dust has settled and LEL is done. The injuries have faded, but the memories are still with us and the treatments you helped fund for Matty are still doing a wonderful job of supporting his recovery. We massively appreciate your generosity last year and realise it's a wee bit. . . . .

Of Foam Rollers, hip stretches and the breaking in of a Brooks.....
Update posted by Tom Hatton at 08:36 pmHi all, We have all been training for a little while now and are starting to break a bit. The thing is London-Edinburgh-London (LEL from here on in) is the sort of event that experienced cyclists (audaxers, apparently) spend years preparing themselves for. Trying to turn your body from that. . . . .
A good Monday morning!
