Campaign Story
This sweet horse was left abandoned in a field near our stables in Añasco, Puerto Rico. After many weeks of neglect she suffered moderate to severe injuries along her back and her legs at which point someone finally rescued her from the field and brought her into the barn. We are unsure if the damage was from another horse or from barbed wire (there are several stories) but her wounds were festering and filled with maggots. She is severely emaciated and losing hair on her face and body as well. Her previous owner was notified has no interest in saving the horse. He agreed to surrender the animal and we decided that we could not simply let her die.
The horse has been seen by a veterinarian (Dr. Melanie Zurkowsky from Miradero Veterinary Hospital) and was administered IV fluids, antibiotics, vitamins & wound care. With the proper care & love she should recover in full but it will not be cheap or fast.
Our small operation does not have the funds to take on another horse in need but in our hearts we could not let this animal suffer. Please consider donating to her care and rehabilitation.
If you live in the Western Puerto Rico area and prefer to give a donation of time or good such as feed or supplies, please contact us for information on how to help.
West Coast Ecuestre is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible.

A setback on Tula's road to recovery...
Update posted by Ann Turri at 10:29 pmThe end of August marks six months since our sweet rescue mare, Tula, came under the care of West Coast Ecuestre. She's continued to improve on her road to recovery but reached a plateau and started to decline recently.Given signs of weight loss, fatigue and persistent eye issues, we ran. . . . .
UPDATE on our rescue horse, Tula!
Update posted by Ann Turri at 05:50 pmThis sweet mare has made tremendous progress in her 3 1/2 months at our barn. All of Tula’s wounds are healed, and her coat has recovered beautifully after major hair loss. She continues to gain weight and is building muscle nicely. Tula’s training is also coming along great! She is. . . . .
