Aunt Leticia (or Letty to us, her son's friends), a 62year old wife to Uncle Idel, mother to her 4 sons, a sister to her 3 siblings, is a very caring, loving, trustworthy woman to her closest friends and acquaintances. She is a person who bears a very positive outlook in life. Despite the previous medical ailments, very recent with STAGE 3C Breast Cancer on September 2015 and had underwent Right Breast Mastectomy immediately followed by 6 Chemotherapy and 32 Radiotherapy Sessions respectively. And on April 2016, She had been cleared from Cancer and two (2) consecutive PET Scans (latest of December 2016) freed her from the same - she remains to be a fighter. And until the very recent events concerning her current medical conditions, she is a cheerful woman who would always remain an inspiration to many people and will always give inspiring message as to how she had tried to fight over these illnesses and how she managed to maintain an optimistic outlook in life. We can give credits to her deep spirituality and faith in the Almighty that she will always encourage people to remain hopeful and to be charitable in each and everyday of their lives.

On early morning of New Year's Day, January 01 2017, Aunt Letty had suddenly been nauseous with intermittent vomiting and diarrhea had occurred. She was rushed to the Hospital because of these and was initially diagnosed with severe dehydration. She was immediately been attended by the Doctors and was given fluids.

However, because of Aunt Letty's recent medical conditions – which had caused her Immune System to be depressed (Immunosuppressed) - complications from the initial diagnosis had started to manifest.

Her heart started to fail, causing a Hypotension and a Blood Pressure to as low as 60/40. Because of this, she is immediately admitted to the Cardiovascular Care Unit or the ICU (Intensive Care Unit).

Her Kidneys started to fail too, pushing an upward direction of the Creatinine level.

She started to turn to yellow caused by the failing liver.

She had difficulty of breathing, which had put her into a Non-invasive respiratory support encompasses CPAP, Continuous Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BPAP) and Negative Pressure Ventilation (NPV).

Her lungs started to collapse (atelectasis).

A more prominent and worrisome manifestations started on her knees down to her toes. Blisters and small in-skin bruises (hematomas) and her toes started to darken in color.

Platelet counts started to drop and signs of Anemia had been prominent.

Her Six (6) Doctors started to convene in order to discuss the case with the family members. She is on board with A cardiologist (heart problems), Pulmonologist (lung problems), Nephrologist (Kidneys and liver problems), Hematologist (Blood and circulation), and Intensivist and an Internal Medicine-Infectious Disease Doctor.

On her 12th Day inside the ICU, all manifestions, signs and symptoms of Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP or Moschcowitz syndrome). A rare disorder of the blood-coagulation system, causing extensive microscopic clots to form in the small blood vessels throughout the body. These small blood clots(thrombi), can damage many organs including the kidneys, heart and brain.

The doctors immediately ordered administration of Fresh Frozen Plasma Transfusion of 10units everyday. Simultaneously a procedure called Plasmapheresis is being done. It is a process in which the liquid part of the blood, or plasma, is separated from the blood cells. Typically, the plasma is replaced with another solution such as saline or albumin, or the plasma is treated and then returned to your body.

The doctors explain that plasma can contain antibodies that attack the immune system. The machine is being used to remove the affected plasma and replace it with good plasma or a plasma substitute. It is also known as plasma exchange. The process is similar to kidney dialysis.

The hematologist cannot however give a definite timeframe as to how many times the said pheresis will be conducted. Each plasmapheresis costs $1000 plus 10units of Fresh Frozen Plasma everyday. As of 24th January, Aunt Letty underwent 12 plasmapheresis and will continue in the coming days.

Because of this too, she is in need of everyday Blood Donation. So far, the outstanding Blood Donation needed still is 32 Blood Donors and still increasing by the day.

We are told that this medical condition is a long tunnel. But we are given hope. There is light at the end of the long hole.

As of this writing, Aunt Letty is still under the CPAP (Mechanical Ventilator). Extensive Cardiac Monitoring inside the ICU. She will look well on some good days and very ill on bad ones.

We tried to seek the Philippine government’s help and we are given some percentage amount of discount through the Government National Insurance Agency (Philhealth) but not enough to shoulder even a quarter of the hospital expenses.

We are imploring and knocking into your kind hearts for any financial help you can extend to the family. As of this writing, the Outstanding Hospital Bill is $30,000 and continuously increasing on each day each procedure, laboratory tests, medical administrations are being conducted.

Despite her other previous ailments, and current medical conditions, her Faith remains unwavered and her optimism remains strong.

Thank you most sincerely for taking time in reading our humble story. We will be very grateful for any help you can extend and rest assured, you will be in our deepest prayers each and everyday of our lives.
