Please consider helping me pay my legal fees after reading this story.

In August I stepped back from subcontracting with a company because of irreconcilable differences.

I began working on my own to be a consultant for teachers looking for support.

Since then, that company I left has threatened me with litigation (with what I believe to be false claims). I hired a lawyer who has responded to all claims, yet I continue to receive more letters to respond to.

I have paid $1,300.00 so far, currently have a bill for $1,006.89, plus un-billed time in January, and this is not yet resolved.

I love my job teaching Spanish at my school and have grown to love teaching teachers and facilitating professional development as well.

My hope is to continue consulting with teachers and schools in New England, and across the country about best practices in the World Language Classroom. I also plan to continue supporting teachers by updating my blog www.deskfree.wordpress.com with resources for teachers, and my twitter @profeashley and Facebook "Desk-Free with Profe Ashley" pages. I love inspiring other teachers and am in turn inspired through this work.

If I'm unable to pay these legal fees, I may need to give up the consulting and coaching work that I've grown to love. If you would consider giving, I would appreciate it.

This is the last post I'll make here. I just wanted to share from my timeline: I'm very humbled and am thankful for the 8 people/families who have supported me here. I hope to be able to return the favor for others who find themselves in tough situations in the. . . . .

Thank you to the 4 generous people who have supported this campaign. One donator wrote: "I donated in appreciation and support for all that you do! Best wishes!!" This means so much to me. Thank you.

  • It's so important for everyone to benefit from your teaching, not just those who are lucky enough to work with you! So proud of you!

  • Your session at ACTFL 2015 has been the single biggest career changer for me. I was feeling so burnt out after 5 years of undergraduate teaching and was desperate to get out. By complete chance, I stumbled into your circle - a session that completely changed my approach to my courses and rekindled my zeal for creative, student-focused methods. The path that experience set me down has allowed me to rediscover what I love about foreign language education. I've actually applied to doctoral programs in Second Language Acquisition, specifically Curriculum Design and Teaching Materials Development, with the explicit goal of creating more innovative materials for instructors, students, and independent learners. I would have never considered such an option had it not been for your session. In the months immediately following ACTFL, I had similar off-putting interactions with the group-that-shall-not-be-named. I don't know any of the details of your situation, but I remember seeing some of its effects unfold on social media. I have continued to follow you and enjoy seeing what you share and listening to your insights. I know how rare it is for students to say thank you or to give you insight into how your work ultimately plays out in their lives. This is the least I can do to say thank you for always inspiring and giving so generously of your time and creativity not only to your students, but to other teachers. Bonne chance!
