Campaign Story
Among its Southeast Asian counterparts, our country, the Philippines, supposedly has one of the highest trash collection rates in the region. In spite of this, the Philippines turned out to be among the top 5 countries, which contribute to plastic pollution in the ocean.
Studies show that of more than 300 million tons of plastic produced each year, at least eight million tons find their way into our oceans. And because plastic does not disintegrate, nearly every single piece of plastic that was ever made is still in existence today. Disposable and single use plastics pose the most harm to our environment, and ultimately human health.
Plastic Oceans Foundation is challenging the way we perceive plastic. They produced a documentary feature film called, "A Plastic Ocean" with the aim of raising awareness to the dangers of using plastic and to promote sustainable solutions eventually. The documentary is set for a global release on January 19, 2017.
My bestfriend Jammy (Founder, Plastic Free Bohol) and I got wind of this documentary and we would like to host screenings in Cebu and Bohol to raise awareness about this and to encourage people to start living plastic-free.
This is where you, our friends and family, come in. We need to raise funds in order to get licensing permits in order to screen this documentary. We need funds in order to lock in our chosen venues for the screening and to rent the necessary audio-visual equipment to make the viewing a pleasant learning experience for all who wish to attend.
This holiday season, we ask that you support us in this endeavor instead of sending us gifts in single use plastic packaging. Your generous donations will help us in seeing though our vision of reducing people's use of plastic, and eliminating it completely in the future. Because if we don't act now, when?
Any amount in excess of the projected costs of the screening will be divided and used to fund projects in our chosen organizations; Plastic Free Bohol and Volunteer in Cebu.
THANK YOU!
