Campaign Story
When one thinks of life-changing events, cancer is definitely not on the list. It's like an abstract idea, a vague what-if, until you see it spelled out in a doctor's diagnosis. Just recently, my sister started her battle with ovarian cancer. Here's her story in her own words:
I'm Isay Gavica, a 21-year-old Geology student at Mapua Institute of Technology. In late September of 2016, I started having stomach cramps and was initially diagnosed with gastroenteritis. After a few days of taking the prescribed medicines, the pain persisted until I had to be rushed to the ER. That same day, I had to undergo surgery to remove 2 massive tumors that developed in my ovaries. The larger tumor was found to be malignant and had ruptured prior to the operation. The surgery cost Php 300,000 and we had to take a loan to pay for it.
After surgery, I was diagnosed with stage 1C ovarian cancer. Because of the ruptured tumor, I am still at risk and have to undergo chemotherapy. I'm scheduled for four cycles, with each cycle costing Php 80,000. After chemo, there will still be monthly consultations with the doctor, medicines, lab procedures and other expenses since this disease requires lifetime monitoring.
I'm determined to beat this disease and get back to school to fulfill my dream of becoming a geologist. It would be a huge help to me if you could donate to the campaign for my treatment.
Every amount counts. Thank you so much!
Isay hopes to start chemotherapy by early November 2016 and this will continue up until early next year. Your donations, no matter how small, will go a long way to pay for her hospital bills and other medical expenses.
