Help Me Save Bolt

I was not expecting another grandchild so soon. My grandchild, Zaylynn who turns 5, next month, October, was already a handful.

Yet, one day, a year ago, there he was. He was about two months old, and he was a birthday gift to my granddaughter. Another addition to my family. His name is Bolt. A crossbreed between an Alsatian and a Husky.

In no time Bolt grew up to be a very energetic and playful young pup, roaming around our backyard.

During that time, he managed to bypass all my defenses and made himself at home deep inside a corner of my heart. I didn’t even know that had happened, until the time when I returned home from work, two weeks ago, and found my brother, waiting for me at the front door. He told me Bolt had scaled the fence on the neighbor’s side and may have injured himself. My heart lurched when I saw blood on his paw and he seemed somewhat disorientated.

On either side of our house, was a 2 metre high vibracretewall with 2 metre high metal, gates on each side of the house. How he scaled those high walls is still a mystery to us.

Due to the blood on his paw, I decided to take Bolt to a Veterinary Clinic for an examination and treatment. On the way to the Vet, my brother noticed blood dripping from a hole in Bolt’s chest.

Aside from the injured paw, it seemed that he had a wound in his chest as well. The Vet examined him and decided to keep him overnight for an examination.. It turned out that there was another puncture wound nearby his genitals.

Three days later, on a Friday, Bolt was discharged. He had an Elizabethan collar around his neck. This was to prevent him from licking and irritating his wounds. He was given a course of antibiotics, along with some pain medication. The Vet told us to come back on Tuesday, so she could inspect his wounds.

We were also told that the chest wound would continually discharge and that we were to keep the wound clean by washing it in antiseptic mixture(medication) twice a day .

That Tuesday when we brought Bolt back, for an examination, it was discovered, that the wound in the genital area, had a bacterial infection, which caused dead grey skin to develop around the wound site. My stomach turned. The Vet said that Bolt was going to require surgery to remove the dead skin, and that the wound site would need stitches thereafter.

The chest wound also did not look so good, according to the vet and she warned us that, if there was no improvement in Bolt’s recovery, after the weekend, she would have to refer us to a Specialist.

This morning, on Monday the 19th of September 2016, the vet told me that the stitches on the operating site, near his genitals, refused to keep the wound closed. Apparently, the skin tears away, when they tried to stitch close the wound.

They same happened with wound in his chest area. The vet had to cut away some dead skin around the puncture wound. Now this wound also, does not want to stay stitched close. It keeps opening up. We are now forced to take our dog Bolt, to an animal hospital, where he will get specialist treatment. Treatment at the hospital may take many months and thousands of rand to be effective. Some people may think we are mad to spend that much money and attention on a dog. But, he is not just a dog, we love him and he is Family!!

Bolt’s treatment has already cost me a few thousand rand, but what could I do, we love him! My grandchild dotes on him, my brother adores him. I myself, has grown to love him.

A Specialist may cost me thousands of rand , but I cannot simply do nothing, to save our dog. He brings us endless joy and happiness.

I am therefore, humbly reaching out to you, my family, my friends and all strangers, who feel warmly towards their own dogs, as well as those of you, who simply wish to assist, to make a donation, towards Bolt’s medical /veterinary costs.

I wish to use these funds, to ensure my friend and one of the joys of our life, gets the proper treatment necessary to save his life.

Please help me help our dog, Bolt. This is an urgent request, that cannot wait for days or weeks to happen.

Bolt need Specialist treatment right now!!

I humbly thank you for your donation and promise to keep you updated.

Hi AllWe have to clean the area twice daily, with antiseptic, to prevent dirt and infection to develop. The veterinary doctor advised us not to cover the wound. He said that it will gradually heal, and if not, that a skin graft may become necessary. I am show overjoyed at

However, their was still some more dead skin that developed again, around the edges, which had to be removed. Well, the chest wound, that was stitched, a week ago, is healing nicely. The lower abdominal wound, has also been stitched, following the recent debridement, and it was indicated by the
