#JobstownNotGuilty needs to raise €2,000 in just over a week to have bail money ready for the possible conviction and appeal of a 17 year old for 'false imprisonment' of Joan Burton. The first 'false imprisonment' trial for the protest in Jobstown against Joan Burton in November 2014 starts on Monday 19 September. A 17 year old from Jobstown faces two charges of 'false imprisonment' because of his alleged involvement in a protest, which saw a sit-down protest and a slow march. The trial is expected to be over by the end of the week.
If found guilty, he could be given a prison sentence immediately. The defence lawyers have asked us to have €2,000 ready for bail money if he is convicted, so that an appeal can immediately be lodged and the 17 year old will not be imprisoned while awaiting his appeal. If extra funds are raised, or if the bail money is not needed (as we hope), then the funds will be used to build the campaign for the defence of the other #JobstownNotGuilty defendants, whose first trial starts in April 2017.

Now we have launched a new fundraising campaign to raise much needed funds to keep the campaign going, and step up our presence on social media in the last weeks of the trial. It is an absolute disgrace and stands against every principle an upright person should hold of belief in equality, freedom of speech, compassion and fairness that not only are they persecuting a group of protesters for exercising their freedom of speech and right to demonstrate which stands alone in its attack on rights and freedom, but to be persecuting a 17 year old boy, who may have more principles than the irish government but is still only a boy. That is beyond the beyonds. If joan Burton is not satisfied with the decimation of her own party but feels the need to take a scorched earth approach to what remains thats her own perogative. She has neither the right by the mandate of god or man to persecute the people of this nation any further. Take your hands off our right to freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of demonstration. Precious few realise the far reaching implications of a guilty decision in terms of irish law. We told the government and the world at the polling stations that we do not accept what we as a nation are being doled out, to no avail. They seek to remove our only other recourse trough a show trial of a 17 year old boy and a whole host of mothers, fathers, sons and daughters who could face up to life imprisonment for daring to stand up to the privatisation of life giving resources. Well may joan and her colleagues all get whats coming to them in its own good time because the people will no longer stand for it. You ignored our vote in the polling stations and now im casting my vote with a borrowed tenner and my shoe rubber the next time theres a march. Ignore it at your peril.
