Campaign Story
"A home away from home in times of distress."
The 'Haven' Shelter has been operating for 8 years. From the start of its operation, the Shelter has assisted hundreds of distressed Domestic Workers in need of accommodation as well as emotional assistance and counseling. Domestic Workers like Maria, who was physically abused, stayed at the Haven for more than two months until her labor case was resolved. During her ordeal, the Shelter provided lodging and has given her some food, emotional and moral support.
The shelter is run by the New Beginnings Christian Fellowship (Hong Kong), a duly accredited Charitable Organization by the Hong Kong government, mostly composed of Domestic Workers. Lately, however, due to the steady increase of rental cost and cost of living in Hong Kong, the organization is finding it hard to provide the required funding and the Shelter is facing the imminent closure of its doors. It will be a tremendous loss on the services we offer to the community of our Domestic Workers in Hong Kong should we be forced to give up this program due to financial constraints.
Please support us in providing a temporary shelter to the many individuals like Rio, a Domestic Worker whose contract was prematurely terminated and stayed at the Haven for almost a moth while looking for another employer.

During our 10th Anniversary, we were able to gather about $20,000 to add on to our on going fundraising. Our Community Services (beauty care, health care, garage sale, food sale, photo shot) are still continuing to be offered every weekend. We are trying to solicit from supportive employers and some business sympathetic to our needs. BIG & small ways are done to SAVE OUR HAVEN. Thanks a lot for your generosity.

We are so grateful that we are able to house 8 ladies in one time. They were encouraged & informed about their situation. One lodger was terminated just 2 months before her contract ends. Her employers made an option whether she will terminate the contract or the employer will hold her passport. She was so afraid what would happened to her due to other threats. So she chose to break the contract & received nothing from the employer including her air ticket because she was given an advance vacation already and just received her salary. We helped her with food, give her some information & guidance what to do & free shelter stay. This is just one of the sad stories we encountered in our Haven/shelter. Thanks for helping us through your donations.
