Campaign Story
Kikundi School at Morogoro in the Kikundi Region of Tanzania is 200 miles inland from the capital, Dar es Salaam, The Special Needs Department of the school supports children with disabilities who cannot travel to the school via their Outreach Service. Majidi Mrutu, one of the teachers at the school, visits the children in their homes. Part of the Outreach Service's remit is to build links between home and school and to encourage further participation for all children, with a particular emphasis on those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
At present the school has to hire a motorbike or pay for taxis to provide this service and it is only available intermittently.
This campaign is to raise funds to cover the cost of buying a motorbike, insuring it for the first year and for the maintenance of the bike for this initial year. This will enable the service to be provided both more frequently and at less cost to the school. We hope that in future these children will also be able to access a new project 'Home Start Tanzania'. This project is in it's infancy and aims to improve the quality of and access to education for preschool children in the area.
'People who have fun get more done.' 'Watu ambao wana furaha kupata zaidi kumaliza.'
