On March 17, 2010, my husband, Ben Roberts experienced a seizure and was rushed to the ER, from there and a few scans later he found out that he had a Grade II Astrocytoma, a type of cancer of the brain. From there he underwent surgery to remove as much of the tumor as they possibly could, but some of the tumor still remains as it is attached to a pituitary gland and blood vessels. Since then he has gone through radiation twice, 3 different forms of chemotherapy, countless MRIs over the years.

Since then and with all the treatment above that tumor has become stable. Within the past year Ben has developed a second more aggressive tumor. This one being located in an inoperable area of the brain and is crossing over into the other side of the hemisphere of the brain. Though we don't know the pathology without surgery on this new tumor, it is thought to be a higher grade tumor due to the aggressiveness and symptoms Ben has been going through.

Within the past month, Ben's health has worsened and he is no longer able to work. He struggles with mobility on the left side of his body, which means he needs round the clock care to help him do everyday activities. He is currently going through chemotherapy and a new therapy called Optune. Optune is a wearable and portable, FDA-approved device that has been shown in clinical trials to safely deliver continuous therapy to the area of your brain where your GBM tumor is located.

Ben is the most kind, loving, thoughtful person I know and I just want to help him live the best life he can possible live, however long that may be.
