I reach out to you today for urgent financial help to replace an old gas furnace which is now shutdown due to a cracked heat exchanger.

Had thought I was covered under a home warranty but found they will not cover the cost of the replacement as they feel it was a "pre-existing condition". I only lived in the house for 1 year and this was the first winter we ran the furnace and even had it cleaned and checked prior to the winter and all was well.

Come late springtime, we started to smell gas in the house when the furnace kicked on and had the warranty company's assigned hvac vendor come check it out and he immediately shut the furnace down and cut off the gas to the furnace.

Heat exchanger was cracked and allowing fumes (CO) to leak into the house. Furnace is over 20+ years old so it would need to be replaced.

So you want to know why I cannot just go out and get one. Part 2 of my story begins now. After living in the house for a short time, I was very comfortable getting around the new house (at least new to us). One evening while walking down the steps, I slipped and twisted my ankle. Well I thought I twisted my ankle but then I found I could not walk on it and after getting to the hospital, we found I broke it pretty bad. Two operations and ongoing therapy has left the emergency fund dry. Building it back up will take time but I cannot go without a furnace in Ohio and it can start getting cold in September and I really do not want risk waiting that long with children in the house.

So I am simply asking for your help with whatever you can afford. All I can offer is my thanks and blessings to those who can help and to those who can't help but pass this on to someone else who can.

Thank you!
