what started out as a gorgeous sunny Tuesday morning quickly turned into a double featured terror! I woke up early and took the dogs out, as i usually do, to let them play for a bit before i had to leave. Around 9 am brought them in, fed them and got them ready to be caged as i had some errands to run and we couldn't trust leaving all three dogs out cause they would rip apart everything , so far the morning was running smoothly , we left around 10:30, got all my errands done by noon still making great time.. walking to my door by 12:05, i figured id grab the dogs and let them run for a bit while i sat with my friend whom had an appointment in beamsville for 1:30 we were right on time ,i opened the door being greeted by happy barks i opened the cage and watched all but one scatter out the door as fast as they could . Isis, our 2 year old white shepherd /border collie mix laid lifeless staring up at me not making a sound, my first reaction was to coax her out with food and maybe some water ,but as she tried to get up her long legs just let go and she layed on the floor, her eyes not moving ,barley breathing and drooling as if she were a faucet with a slow leak, i tried calling for help but having no luck. Being turned away as soon as i mention being on ontario works and not having any money till thursday, no one would help me , us . my neighbor said to just put her in the car and take her the Central Niagara Animal Hospital just up on Lundy's Lane in niagara falls ,ontario . My friend and neighbor got her in the car and to the animal hospital we sped not knowing if they would help us but not having the time to waste i ran through the door covered in saliva and urine i begged for help and cried out We didnt know what was wrong with her or if she would make it, they quickly got to work,i explained our financial situation and they advised us we would need at least $ 650 by the end of the day which was 6 pm ,and now its only 2.. we left her there and rushed home so we could clean up and look around for a clue to what caused this, we walked in to see our 4 month old shepherd /lab cross fazing just like isis but still very vocal , in pulling him out of the cage we found an empty pill bottle and one pill ,no label , and not belonging to myself or my daughter we had no clue what we were dealing with speeding to the clinic we brought both dogs this time and the chewed bottle and that perfect pill, just in case lucky took a turn for the worse while we were gone, they admitted the pup now our bill just doubled in a matter of an hour, And now being drilled about the pill, poison control was ringing out ,but i kept trying more than a dozen times, still no answer. My friend had runacross to the drugstore and had the pharmasist contact the vet notifying them that the two dogs had just ingested a very high dose of muscle relaxers, leaving their toxicity levels extremely high, and not knowing how many or how long before they were injested before we brought them for medical attention, they moved both dogs to an observation area, allowing us to leave the very sick dogs behind, we were advised to go home and beg our family for money to help with expenses because they do not take payment plans and without payment in full by 6 they would have to send the dogs to the emergency hospital which would quadruple our charges. Heartbroken, confused, traumatized , scared and distraught we went home and started calling everywwhere we could find, numbers after numbers machine after machine we searched the internet searching for help from somewhere, but we still came up empty handed. Most places must be applied for before treatment is started and others we didnt meet criteria for.. our rent being due in two days we did what we had to and payed what we could bringing the bill now down to $952 and more charges for check up visits in few days, and a $200 a week payment expectation, we are lost ... short on rent , not enough for us to survive with the food we already have and no more money until next month we are begging for help .. we are loving responsible pet owners normally but this has changed and affected us all in a financially and mentally damaging way i know this is a tough time for everyone so we do not expect miracles or large contributions but if you can afford $5.00 it helps bring us that $5.00 closer to reaching our goal...Isis and Caine are home and recovering slowly but Isis being as non responsive as she was we fear she may have some permanent damage , we will post pictures daily and updates on recovery along with the findings and final charges on monday , from Madison,Lucky,Isis,Caine and Myself we would like to thank everyone for all your kindness , Love and Support in advance , THE MCGRATH FAMILY
